Time to get back on the TEFL trail...

Erm... hello! *walks back into a busy room and tries to hide the signs of awkwardness as a few people look his way...*

Yes, erm, right. Long time no talk on Chalkboard. Tsk. Poor show. Very disappointing. Who do I think I am just flying in and out when it pleases me? No sticking power and commitment. Harumph...

Anyway, for months I've been off the boil and not engaging with the idea of teaching English abroad because I've been busy with other stuff and thwarted by obstacles. I feel bad about this for several reasons...

  1. It does make me feel like a self-serving idiot who only comes to the community when he needs something and I hope that isn't how it comes across to anyone who I've talked to in the past. The best experience I've had this year - getting out to summer camp training in Italy - only came about because of people on Chalkboard and I'm truly grateful. I want to be a positive and helpful person and engage with this forum so sorry if I've given the impression otherwise.
  2. I've got TEFL qualifications and want to put them into practice, use them and get more experience.
  3. I want to see what other people are up to and share in the experiences and insights by TEFL teachers and travellers - because it's interesting and important.
  4. I want to travel, embrace new experiences, open my mind and discover.

Following on from the last point, I really, really do need to make a fresh break. I'm desperate to travel and need to get away for the sake of my own wellbeing. I'm looking ahead to 2011 as a fresh opportunity for personal progress and I see TEFL work as being a crucial part of that.

I'm looking for possibilities and so, hopefully, by diving back into this community I can find inspiration, engage with people and make good things happen.

Altogether then, I'll wrap up by apologising for being a flighty absentee and promising that I'll be around here more often as a positive, enthusiastic member of a cool online community. Here's to exciting TEFL experiences, adventures and enthusiastic communication!

I am open to suggestions - really, anyway would be good!

To be more specific, I would love to teach in Italy and hopefully I'll get the chance to do Lingua senza frontiere summer camps this year having done the training but not actually got to the camps themselves this summer. Otherwise, I'll go with whatever! (preferably somewhere warm - it's too cold in Britain at the moment).

Anyway, hope you're well and thanks for the welcome back!

Haha - welcome back James! Good to see you again!

Where are you hoping to head for next, or are you open to suggestions?
