Hi, I work for i-to-i in Toronto! I'm TEFL certified and taught elementary students in Japan for 11 months. I learned some Japanese, ate some interesting food and got lost on the trains a few times before sadly returning to Canada! I've also travelled in Europe, Southern Africa and Thailand. I'm originally from a small town in Northwestern Ontario and I went to Guelph University (shout out to Guelph)! I love trying new foods, biking, yoga, art and travelling! Next trip might be to Ecuador or Nepal! Anyone interested?! :)
Please join our i-to-i Canada eh facebook fan page, I'd love to hear from you!

Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountHi, I finished my 120 hours in early July and still haven't received a certificate... I'm wondering who to call about this. Thanks.
Hey, just wondering about the Weekend Course Certificate - I got the pdf of the certificate for that weekend at Humber but I am not sure if I should expect it in the mail or not. I am heading (so far) off on the 15th of August for the internship if everything goes as planned. I know that I am supposed to bring them with me so I don't know if I should just print out the PDF or if I should wait for the certificate. I will make copies of everything but just wondering if I will receive an original, or if it should have already reached me?
Hi, not sure where or when I'll be heading out on the next adventure. What I really want to do is work with 'underpriviliged' kids, the ones who wouldn't usually get a chance to go to a school - but that's usually volunteer work. At this point I'm kinda waiting for something to fall into my lap, I figure if the China thing wasn't meant to be, then something else is waiting... Take care.
Happy Canada Day!! I won't be going to China this fall so am looking for something else - any ideas? The placements in Georgia are really tempting, but they say that they want at least one year university experience. Do you know if that is set in stone? Or do they just not want kids directly out of high school? Have a super long weekend, eh?
I hadn't heard that about the Golopogas yet, though I'm more interested in the mainland attractions. I would still like to check the islands out!

Thanks! I'm thinking about teaching in either Ecuador or Costa Rica, and then maybe once I get some experience try out Colombia. I'm mostly interested in the latin countries, but I was looking into Indonesia for a while before. Right now I'm living just outside of Toronto, but I want to get out of here before the winter. I didn't even realize i-to-i had a branch in Toronto! I guess you are also getting ready for another trip? Anyways take care!

Hi, it took about a year to get over the India thing, have you ever had a tropical bug? They're nasty. I found out about the China internship about 2 days before it closed and have been madly tring to apply and finish all my courses and decide whether to give up my apartment.... What sort of adventures are in the works for you?
Hey, I would love to have a chat and coffee (or tea) with you! I am planning on coming down a few times this summer (I live 45 min away from there) as my sister is down there and I have a few things to check out. I will be booking off a day soon to go renew my passport before I leave and then I will be booking another day in July for a visa but weekends work best - does it for you? I would love to pick your brain about everything regarding teaching overseas. I know you have not been to China (i think) but the anticipation of a foreign teaching job is similar to any destination I feel. Hope to hear from you.

Hi, thanks for the comment...i will be sure to check the book out...ive a couple but i struggle with them. One i have has the words in ramaji and spells the words out phonetically which helps but doesnt have the japanese writing and is more just for beginners and doesnt progress with level.
Another one i had given to me is more of a text book with a CD but is mostly for writing and not procticing speech. A third has lots of mini lessons in to do but it only touches on things and is not that helpful...
I will certainly check this book out though.
I am located in Yamada in Iwate (north Japan)...about 40mins south of Miyako City and about 2hours east of Morioka. I am still waiting on getting a car but i spoke to my manager last night and they are tyring to finalise things, so i should have one soon. once i have a car there is en english class and a cultural class in Miyako so i will be joining and helping with them which will help to get to know more japanese people.
I have also put in for a transfer to Tokyo area for April...i dont want to leave my schools because i like them but being in the city is where my heart lies and i know a few people there and so it will help, a lot. Eventually, once ive saved up, i plan to go to a language school for a year.
What job do you do now?
Will you ever come back to Japan?
My plan is to hopefully live here permanently
