It's a valid question, why on EARTH in these times of economic disaster would you pay MORE for something? There are so many companies out there offering TEFL courses, some at bargain bin prices, so why should you choose i-to-i over everyone else?
First things first, i-to-i is not like the other TEFL companies out there “aha i-to-i we KNEW you’d say that, i-to-i TEFL...!” BUT WAIT... we’ll give you five solid reasons:
1. We introduced the very first Classroom TEFL Course back in 1994
2. We were the very first company to put the TEFL course online
3. We created our own free TEFL community, Chalkboard, back in 2009 for our TEFLers
4. We’ve got our own TEFL Jobs Board full of the latest TEFL vacancies around the world
5. We’ve got our own CertTEFL qualification, which is at the same level as a CELTA course
We could go on, but we don’t like to brag all that much… let's just say what we don't know about TEFL isn't worth knowing...
Look at it this way, sometimes you tend to get what you pay for in life. Not always, but sometimes.
Whether you’re looking to TEFL as a stopgap, or as a long term career option, your TEFL qualification is something that’ll give you an amazing experience and will reward you in the long term, so it’s right that you should look around at as many course providers as possible before committing.
Here are four simple questions to ask yourself before choosing your TEFL course of choice:
1. Will I get the support I need?
This is an important one, especially when choosing an online course. You need reassurance that if you get stuck, it’s not just you and your computer. *ahem!* here at i-to-i, we have expert tutors marking your submissions, with real feedback to make improvements on each step of the way. Plus, our community Chalkboard, is on hand if you get stuck and just want to indulge in some peer to peer chat.
2. Will I have contacts around the world?
It’s not just about the course; it’s what you’re going on to do once you’re TEFL qualified too. Thinking ahead, it’s all well and good having a piece of paper with your qualification, but how much help will you receive getting a job? *ahem!* i-to-i TEFL have a TEFL Jobs Board right on our site here and it’s totally free to use, plus each job is moderated, so you can be assured it’s all legit. If you’re not a fan of finding your own job, you can always take a look at our supported short term internships!
3. Will my qualification be recognised when I leave my house?
Again, if you’re going to the expense of buying a course, you really should look into making sure you’ll be able to use it effectively. It’s worth noting that there’s no international TEFL governing body or universally accepted qualification for teaching English abroad. However, *ahem* the ODLQC (Open and Distance Learning Quality Council) has recognised the quality of our courses and we monitor our courses carefully to ensure they meet the very highest industry standards.
Plus, our EDI CertTEFL is accredited by the UK Government as a Level 5 qualification, the same level as CELTA/Trinity courses. Oooh la la!
4. Will I get value for my money?
As mentioned before, in these horrible times of economic nastiness, there’s the temptation, and valid reasons, for taking the cheapest option. We’re not sitting here on our soapbox saying that you should pay more, absolutely not. If you find a deal that works for you and you’re confident you’ll get what you need, go for it.
*Ahem* all of our courses can be bolted on to each other at any point with no penalties. If you want to start with a basic TEFL course and top up your training as your love for TEFL increases, that’s fine.
All of our courses provide complete support through our tutors, webinars, Chalkboard and other online resources.
We’re here for you every step of the way.
We’d call that value for money. What do you think? Are we missing anything from this list?
Request a free call back from one of our TEFL experts if you like? We LOVE chatting about TEFL and helping your future plans as much as we can!
