I’ve finished my TEFL Course- What next?

Hurrah! You’ve finished your TEFL Course and it’s time to celebrate, go on make some noise, do a celebratory dance or pop open the bubbly if the feeling takes you!

Now there’s just the small matter of where you’d like to go...with so many different options available to you as a newly qualified TEFL teacher it’s sometimes difficult deciding what you’d like to do next so here are a few tips to help you on your merry way...

So by now you’ve waved goodbye to those checkpoints, completed your post course questionnaire and made sure your contact details are bang up to date. Whether your fire place is already adorned with your shiny, new certificate or you’re excitedly waiting by the post box here’s a little clarification about the next steps to take.

Saving your work

Let’s face it you’ve probably created some great lesson plans and conjured up some brilliant ideas throughout the duration of your TEFL course so we don’t blame you for wanting to hold on to them.

We suggest you save a copy for your own records, even if you feel you don’t want to hold onto anything just now, when you’re a fully fledged TEFL teacher there may be some useful ideas to refer back to and expand upon and it would be a real shame to lose this when your course expires!

How do I look for a job?

There are three main options open to you now you’re qualified (Lucky you!) They are all slightly different so it’s just a matter of deciding the best option for you whether it be searching for your own TEFL job, deciding to do a placement or joining our Internship- they are many exciting opportunities to take advantage of!

Searching for your own job

Some of our TEFL graduates prefer to look for their own job. If you’re an experienced traveller or are simply brave enough to set up home in another country then this may be a great option for you!
Independent job searching provides a degree of flexibility with some graduates choosing to travel to their desired country first and approach schools in person.

With i-to-i’s contact database of 8000 job contacts to hand you’ll be well on your way to bagging your dream TEFL career... so what are you waiting for? Get typing those C.V’s and cover letters!

Free placement service

If you’re ready and raring to go but feel you’d like the security of knowing you’ll have somewhere to call home upon arrival (or maybe even for your family’s piece of mind) then a placement could be just what you’re looking for.
With our free placement service offering a range of positions and generous packages, this is a very popular option for our graduates and it’s easy to see why.

The benefits usually include perks such as airport pick-ups and transfers, flight reimbursements and fully furnished apartments great for those looking for a little extra security.
Why not take a look at our Placements page for some more information?

i-to-i Internships

You’re sure to have come across tales and pictures of our Internships on Chalkboard and it’s easy to see why they are so popular. Our Interns can pick from China, Thailand and Poland so there really is something for everyone.

Internships include your placement within a school as well as accommodation, in country orientation and 24 hour support among other perks. It really takes the stress out of the whole experience and what’s more you’ll get to mingle with lots of other interns and many find life-long friends and choose to carry on their TEFL Careers when the six months has come to an end!

Why not chat to our previous China Intern Denise or take a look at our internship page for more details?

Katie

Hi,

Just got one module left so my thoughts are moving on to what is next and this post has really been helpful.

However the placement page won't work just wondering if you could send me the link as they sound like a really good way to start and something I would love to look in to.

Thanks Jenny
