Not backing down!

Sorry...we have one particularly persistent spammer on the site at the moment.

It's frustrating but we are aware of the issue and doing everything to keep them away from the site.

Sending many, many apologies for any messages you might have received a message from the user with this image:

Please ignore anything from them, as soon as we spot them we are banning them, and whilst we wouldn't give any trade secrets away here, we know as soon as they join up to the site and can ban them.

Spam is a pain on this site and there's only so much any site can do to stop it, but we do appreciate your patience with it. We're getting better at dealing with it, trust us! But there's still a way to go!

Thanks TEFLers!

Spammers are a pain and they appear to be taking over the internet as of late! My personal blog (not on here) keeps getting hit by spammers. The suggestions that Paul has suggested are all pretty good however can IT not ban the particular IP they're posting from, or are they using proxies to register and spam? Either way, good luck with getting rid of the annoyance! *shakes fist at spammers*

Hey Paul,

The captcha code would be amazing to have and isn't something that we're ruling out, it's hard to know whether you'll be battling spammers rather than annoying real people!

The post approve option is a good suggestion, and one we use for the TEFL Blog, as you you know, but just doesn't seem feasible given the volume of users on Chalkboard :(

There are a few tests going on underway up those big sleeves of the IT team, we'll keep you posted!

How's things with you anyway?

Katie

have you thought about using the "to make sure your real" technique

i dont know the actual name of it but its whereby everytime you submit a comment you have to type in the random letters from an image. - spammers hate this cos it takes too much time.

also, what about having an option to make your profile only viewable and only friends can write and comment on your profile

and what about for blogs and groups having the option to approve posts!
