Hi...
thank you for your comment on my page...i will try and answer the best i can. Firstly the main intakes for most companies are March/April and August/September...if you are wanting to come with JET then this is usually in August...
Just like with any company you hear good things and bad things. A lot of Board of Educations are requesting less JETs...the government, schools and BofEs are also trying to save money...currently JETs get paid the most for doing the same amount of work as other ALTs...also they are usually exempt from tax where as other ALTs arent and so the government loses out...for this (regardless of what other JETs or the program tell you ) they have and are still reducing numbers. It is much harder to get a job with JETs
So applying to other companies is strongly advisable...you can apply to dispatch companies and work in regular schools from elementary to high school (the same as JET), some of these companies will offer a lot of help (such as interac) other will hardly help you (such as heart).
You can also apply to language schools. However you sometimes work irregular hours, teach mixed level and mixed age classes.
Check out gaijenpot.com to see current jobs, companies etc
applying direct to a regular school is possible but its very unlikely that you will get a job with them because they prefer people in country, who have taught with them or in the area through a dispatch company, know japanese etc.
Tokyo stands out but it very hard to get a job in...if you like tropical weather try Okinawa, if you like WW2 history try Hiroshima, if you like rural try norther Honshu, if you like cold and snow try Hokkaido, if you want somewhere in the middle try places like Nara, Osaka or Nagoya.
as for photos trying using firefox or google chrome web browser...i actually upload from my flicker account...before i had to upload pics one at a time
hope this helps
