Visa for Italy

Hey everyone,

I am from the United States and looking to go teach English in Italy. I already have a friend living over there teaching English and I'm planning on going to live with her. She had dual-citizenship when she moved to Italy so all she needed to do was get TEFL certified and she had a job. I, however, will need a visa and was wondering if anyone has gone through the process of getting a visa to teach in Italy and could let me know what all they had to do. I've looked around on the website to get a visa for Italy and it's a little confusing. If anyone has any knowledge or advice, I would greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Hey Hollie,

Getting a visa to start working in Italy can be tricky as a US national, especially if you plan to teach English, as you'll be competing against UK and Irish nationals who don't need visas to work elsewhere in the UK.

A school will need to sponsor your visa application, so my best advice would be for you to approach some schools in the city where your friend lives to see what their feelings are on hiring US teachers - they may be happy to help you navigate the paperwork in return for a great teacher!

Good luck with it all!
