I'm considering a TEFL course but I don't have a university degree and from what I can tell this really limits my options. Is it possible to teach in Spain without a degree? I do plan on taking the 120hr course and I have experience working with children.
Thanks,
Caitlin
Hi Graham, thanks for sharing your story, it really helps those of us who are just about to embark on our own journey. I am moving to Tarragona in June where I will stay until October; after that I want to move to the south of Spain but I'm not sure of where exactly yet, any suggestion on where I could easily find TEFL work?
Did you already speak Spanish when you moved to Spain?
It's really inspiring to hear others success stories; hope your business continues to grow.
Kind regards, Scarlett
Hi Graham, in your language school do you use workbooks? If so can you recommend me any good ones for using with Children aged between 8 and 13. Word of mouth is getting round the valley and I now have a few more children with other people asking about courses during the summer holidays. So far I have managed without workbooks as any I found, I didn´t really like and therefore have been putting alot of work into lesson plans and making my own material. But for the future I think it would be easier if I did this in conjunction with a workbook. Thanks alot and I hope you don´t mind me asking. Sally
Hi Graham! I've recently moved to Alicante and I'm looking for TELF work in the area. I'm an civil engineering graduate from university college cork, Ireland and I've also done a TEFL and grammar course with i-to-i. I've some experience teaching english to small groups, mostly adults and teenagers. Any advice on where to look for work in Alicante? Best regards! James
Interest is very high in teaching children (esp.) English, I get the impression that parents see it as a genuine 'must have' that their children speak/read/write English. You would have to approach individual 'schools' to see if they have any vacancies. You could start your own school but be very aware that Spain is very bureaucratic and there are all sorts of hoops to jump through if you go down that route.
Good luck, hope things work out
Hi, I'm really starting to think of coming to Spain if I don't get a place in Ecuador, so I love to read your posts. I could just come over in my van and livein that until I find somewhere. Is it easy enough to find work? I did the 120 hr course.
Your story is inspiring...I am also not a youngster anymore (I'm 48), and I'm very interested in doing something besides working in an office until I retire or die! So my plans include retiring from my work here in California, making a permanent move to Brasil this year (2010) and taking part in the opening of a small school. There is already one Brasilian English teacher but she also has too many students and I will be the first American there teaching English. Apparently this is quite in demand as she says there are already students signing up to be taught by "the American." I'm looking forward to the experience, getting to know the people and the country. Although I have already been to Brasil several times, I'm sure it's nothing like actually living there. I can't wait! I feel like a kid again!
