Wow, I just signed up for my 140hr Combined course after receiving the go ahead of my dad. (I know, I am an adult etc etc, but still my dad is the stability when my thoughts run riot & my enthusiasm get's the best of me..) In Jan 2011 I'll be doing the classroom training, so in the mean time I can get to grips with the course.
I hope I can remain focussed with the course & so I will have to promise myself to set times to get the work done.. Yes, what will work for me..? An hour a day? 5 hrs a week? How much time do others spend to get their course work done?? Any advice on what worked for you when you first started?? I'd love to hear anybody's thoughts!! :-D
Every journey starts with a first step. A step towards a new life aswell as a scary step into the unknown.. Wow!

Wow, thanks you all soo much for your comments! I am glad I took the 3 month extension though, so no pressure there for me!! ;-D Its nice to hear how much time others are spending on their course. I am generally great at motivating others, less good at motivating myself for long periods of time.. lol.
Congrats to you Susan for having finished your 140hr course!! And good luck to Rachel, Stephen & Laura!
Thanks again for your comments!! xx
Hi! Congratulations on signing up; I started my 140 hour course about two weeks ago and it's the best thing I've done for myself in a long time. I've just finished checkpoint two, so for me I've been hitting a checkpoint per week so far. I work full time, so I've just been logging in every night and doing as much or as little as I feel like. Some days I've done a couple of hours, some days just half an hour or so. It really depends on how I'm feeling at the time. Usually (well as usually as you can get when you've only completed three modules), I read through the module in one or two sessions and then take notes off of the module pdf for the rest of the week. I'm finding that it's best to save checkpoints for the weekend as, as a couple of your other commenters mentioned, they can be quite time consuming. Just enjoy and you'll find your own routine soon! Rachel :)
I am just finishing my 140hr course and from my experience the assignments take me much longer than i thought. It depends how you want to approach it but if you are ever waiting for an assignment to be graded so can't move on to the next part of your course, try doing some of the 20hr grammar course - at least this way you keep the momentum and break the grammar course down into little chuncks. Good luck on your course am sure you will be fine.
I think it kind of differs from person to person. If I start a module, I feel like I have to finish it the same day!! Makes me feel like I actually did something :) When doing the checkpoints though I take my time and often take almost 3 hours to finish them, just to be totally sure the answers are at a high enough standard. Passes them so far so I must be doing something right!!
Hey,
I am just working on my TEFL course too, what I find works best for me is doing the reading for the learning modules on a weeknight. I usually spend an hour or so doing this after work, then I complete the checkpoints at the weekends when I have more time to concentrate on it.
Good luck with the course and if you do happen to get stuck at all you may want to check out this group:
