I tried searching for this answer, but I couldn't find it. If there's already a thread answering this question that you know about please direct me toward it :)

I'm interested in taking a 140 hour Combined Course. How long on average does it take to complete the whole course?

Thanks in advance.

There is no 'one size fits all' answer to this. How quickly you complete the course will depend on how much time you spend working on it each day/week, and whether you are asked to resubmit anything. Some people have completed it in a matter of weeks, others in months. It took me five months to complete, but I was working two jobs at the time, which involved driving 2,200 miles a month, so I could only work on the course at the weekends.

Thanks for the quick reply.

When should you Go to the in-classroom stuff? What do you suggest?

I'd wait until you've completed some of the course before you do the in-class element. Doing it this way will introduce you to the commonly-used TEFL terms and give you some experience in lesson planning. By the time you get into the classroom, you can focus solely on teaching practice.

I'm doing the 140 hour combined course also and it is quite intense. I was told over the phone that you have 3 months in total to complete the course and if you need longer you can purchase an extension for the course if needed be. I am hoping to have mine completed by October 25th, that's the goal and deadline I have set myself which would be a 2 month duration.

So far I have been working on it for a little bit each day. :)

Without sounding mean this is a 'how long is a piece of string' kind of question. The TEFL course can be completed in as long or as little amount of time as you need. If you have a lot of free time you can probably get it done quite quickly but if you're busy and have a full-time job it'll take longer.

I was working full-time when I was doing mine which took me about 6 months as some days I'd get home and think 'I'm not in the mood today' but then other days I'd power through loads. It also depends on the modules you're doing. You can get through the ones where you only have to look at slides pretty quickly but then assignments might take you longer. To make sure that I got moving with mine (as more often than not I'd get home from a rubbish day at work and think I can't be bothered) I set aside two evenings a week that I HAD to do my work, and then if i found on other days that I thought 'yeah i'll do some today' I was ahead of myself.

It is a very intense course but the good part about it is that you can do it in your own time. If you're stuck on a module take your time with it! And there's always plenty of support for you on here!

I'd suggest doing the weekend course after doing the Online Course or at least part way through it as some of it will be brought up in the weekend course so it may help but I did the weekend course first without any prior knowledge and I did fine!

Best of luck!
