Confused!! - Notarization and the visa process!

Hello! I'm so confused about the visa process. Does any one know about getting the basic disclosure verified by an Apostille stamp?? Some websites say you need to get them notarized by a notary body beforehand and others say you can just get it signed by a solicitor.
