Can I bring my boyfriend abroad for a little while?

So, I want to go to Japan for a year this march. And with every program that I've looked into there's always housing for a single person. My boyfriend wants to visit with me for like a month but I'm not sure if doing something like that would be breaking the rules of housing or whatnot. Does anyone know? Any advice for couples teaching english overseas. What advice would you have for those looking at doing TEFL together and going to the same schools/internships. Is there many teaching jobs for couples, is it harder to find jobs if your a couple ect .... any advice would be helpfull...
