Hi all,

I have recently signed up for Thailand and have been accepted which is all good.

I have been sent the contract and I thought I would get a friend who currently teaches in Thailand to have a look to make sure its ok.

She came back saying everything is fine EXCEPT that the pay we will get IS REALLY LOW despite getting rent and food.

She said that you won't be able to go out/socialise or travel and not save anything. Qualified or not, a TEFL teacher should be on about 25000bht per month.

I have emailed AYC to check this and have not yet had a response......has anybody else looked into this because I am now a little concerned.....any thoughts please???

Hey,

As far as I know, none of the current interns have had issues with money, as everything is so cheap. Bear in mind that it's very unlikely that you'll be placed in the centre of Bangkok - you'll most likely be in provincial capitals where the cost of living is very low, even by Thai standards. You won't be able to save, but you will be able to have a good time. For more info you might want to ask Matt, who's out there at the minute how he's found getting by on his living allowance: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/metalmatt

Hope that helps - any more questions just shout!

Thanks Honor, I will check out Matts diary.

Maybe I am worrying about nothing but I still intend to go regardless.
