hey guys, my name is Sarah, I just thought this was a good way of all of us who are DEFINATELY going to thailand in october , to start chatting and getting to know eachother more, and basically sharing feelings and thoughts about the trip. I am sooo excited !!!! I have no idea what to pack or take with me though, anyway hope to hear from you all Sarah xxxx |
Hi Sarah! My friend and I just signed up for the october internship today, where abouts are you from? We're both 21 and from Glasgow!
Really excited too, although have no idea what to take either....this seems like a good way of finding out what everyone else is planning :) Adele x |
Hello, well I'm now skint but i have all my application stuff for the internship! Funny, now I've paid, I'm even more nervous! hehe. Have you guys started your application? Not very good at covering letters myself. I thinks its great that so many people seem to have signed up already! Arghhhh, so excited!!! |
hey adele - ooo great , is your friend on here to?? maybe i could add her ? thats good at least it wont be as scary for you. mind you we all get put in random places. wish we knew before we left, but on the other hand i love the adventure :-) yep i am 21 too and from derbyshire, but have been in london the past 3 years studying drama and video production. ye i just thought by doing this we can all share and plan things together :-)))
yepo im exactly the same - SKINT !!!! lol. ye i know what u mean. once u pay it makes u feel even more nervous but in a good way :-) ye i hope we have a great bunch of people . we will all have to meet up at weekends whether we r far away from bangok or in the centre. i think it will make the experience so much better. hopefully we will all get cell phones when we arrive, so we should take down everyones number and organise activities for the weekends? does anyone know what the weather is like... is it ever cold there? sarah x |
She's not on here yet but will be soon ha, will get her to add yous. Yeah it's quite good not knowing what to expect...all part of the fun :)
ooh that sounds like an interesting course :) having studied drama will probably come in really handy for teaching! In the same boat as you guys...will need to do some serious saving over summer...paying for this has cleaned me out! haha.
That'd be great if we could all meet up and do stuff at the weekends!! Not too sure if it gets cold, but think it can get quite rainy. You guys have any idea how many others are going?? x |
I'm noticing that there seem to be a lot of northerners going on this placement! Love it! Needing to get myself a summer job to, also need to motivate myself to get through the grammar course a bit quicker too mind! Maybe, and not to be too cheerleader about this, we could sort our some form of drinks event before we go? would maybe take some of the nerves away from the departure gate! Yeah, I think its gonna be rainy season, but all that means is quick showers of an evening and less humidity, still sunny hot though, at least thats what i think!?!

Hi i'm Carl and i've signed up for the Thailand internship! It'd be good to get chatting to people that are also going!
I'm also absolutely skint and i'm really bad at saving but i guess i'll have to try! I work in a bookies so maybe i could just gamble loads and become rich that way?
I've never been to Thailand before but i've heard loads of good stuff about it. Oh and when we go its their dry season by the way, 'cos our summer is their monsoon season! So we're all gunna be tanned up big time!!
Getting phones is definately a good idea, we could go down to the islands and that on the weekends and explore!

Yep i am absolutely SKINT to hence having just got a summer job!! yay lots of northerners...hehe, i bin down south for 3 years and its great to move back up to home hehe... yes i think a drinks night would be a great idea . would be really good ... another idea would be as well, if anyone fins cheap flights ( obv depending on where we are from) but i guess for us U.K people london is gonna b the best bet for airports to fly from, if anyone finds cheap deals we should post a lonk and maybe all try book the same flight cuz then itll make the journey there even better...wt do yah think? just an idea. :-) well im pale.... so ill try and get tanned up as much as possible... but in thailand the whiter we r the better.. they love White skin- ...apparently the more white u r the more royal you are or something like that. hehe, i have been looking up thai culture lol.
yep i really need to get on with my course and application... being a bit slow at getting into it. yep i think there are 30 places .....so thats good. plenty of us.... we should def make a pact to meet up at weekends... cuz some people are in remote areas where they r not near any other interns ....so it would be nice for them if we made the effort to see them etc..... anyway must go to sleep im so tired... but soo excited to hehe. xxx |

Hi guys im Amy think I have most of you as friends now, just joined this group. im so exited really really cant wait do you have to send a CV and a covering letter? is that what the application is? I really love Asia when I was 17 i travelled to India and worked in a school there in the Himalayas and I have also worked in an Orphanage in Vietnam. As for what to take I have been caught out a few times on my travels lol when i was in Africa i was living in a mud hut and i swear i had no nice clothes lol the same when i was in india. In vietnam i found myself going out with other volunteers and wished i had brought more nice things lol. I would say just bring respectable clothes but to be honest you will probs just end up just buying most stuf from markets out there lol will talk to you guys soon xxxx |

Nice to hear that we will be getting some good weather...exploring the islands at the weekends sounds excellent!! Sounds like you are quite in the know with things culture-wise sarah, you can keep us in check! ha :) Yeah Amy, think a CV and covering letter is part of the application, although not got mine sent away yet! Wow, that's great you've already done a lot of travelling...sounds amazing! Think it's a good idea all getting the same flight too, my friend and I were thinking it might work out cheaper for us to come down and fly from london anyway....so def something to look into! :)

Hi guys, I am Hannah and I live in Leeds. Have hooked up with Leanne already but is nice to see there are so many other lovely people going. Think I will be the granny of the group at 29 by the looks of it! Think idea of meeting up at weekends when we are over there is great so we can all keep in touch. Haven't started the application either but don't think it looks too bad. I tend to jump jobs a lot so have done a few!
Catch up with you all soon.

Just hope the application goes ok and I get accepted so I definately know I am going! I have already started looking at all the places we could go at the wknd..Thailand looks awesome! Sounds like you are all up for meeting at the weekends and exploring which is great as thats exactly what I want to do! Anyway its cool to have a web facility where we can all get to know eachother before we go! x |
Hey susie! Welcome and all that! Anyone know what kind of thing we have to put in the covering letter for the application? |
i have no idea.... i havent even looked at it yet. just waititng to sort out my certificate first.... its so much easier writing on this cuz u can see what people have written and then write back . where as on our actual profiles if someone write u long paragraphs and you go to write back its really difficult to rememebr what they asked you. welcome suzie.... :-)))0 glad ur excited about being busy at weekends etc , and love the fact that u have already been looking up things to do :-))) |

Sarah -- Did you make your choice about that job offer then? must have been hard to make? I know the temptation! I always wanted to do something like this but was so lucky to be offered loads of really good jobs, i never wanted to say no and now its been so long since i left uni I cant beleive it! Am i right in thinking your near Derby? I spend loads of time in Nottingham at my brothers (so I can see my gorgeous nephew), would be lovely to meet for a drink sometime! Its cool that your friend is joining you! |
Hey everyone! Just sent off my application for the internship! fingers crossed I get a place! And slowly working my way through all the online material! Hopefully be meeting you all soon!! Pam xxx
I think you hear back from your application within 48 hours which is good! Hopefully its ok if you've had no teaching experience because i certainly haven't?!!
Whats the general thought on applying, when are people going to send off their application forms?
Carl x |
As soon as I get around to writing a covering letter! I'd imagine the sooner the better so you can get on with all the visa stuff. I called I to I yesterday about that, was a bit bothered that my degree in stage management might make them go "wtf?" and they'd just think it was a mickey mouse degree and not let me go! They told me not to worry, that the people in Thailand are aware that this will be most peoples first teaching job and if theres anything that may help the application to just attach it to the bottom of the application form, I did a couple of summers in the USA on a special needs camp so i've thrown that on. Still, fingers crossed! |
I hate writing covering letters! I'm really bad at them!!! |
I've been told that the application is nothing to worry about as long as there are no criminal records to be had ;-) and if your english is written ok considering you are off to teach the language and all that..I'm not going to get round to doing mine until next week as have luckily got a few days in Switzerland so won't be able to do it until after then..i presume as we are all paid up our applications are open for a while?! To those who have written their application form I would love tips when you get your place! x |

hi everyone...im so tempted to apply to this scheme but am slightly apprehensive as I have never done anything like it before. Do you think its worth paying the money for versus just doing the qualification and looking for a job? Shelley |
