Hi there!

I think this is probably a bit early to be asking, but has anyone else signed up for the Thailand internship in May 2012 yet?

I've just booked it, thought I had better do it while I had the money to spare! I'd love to hear from anyone who's going along or even thinking about it.

Hello! I've never done anything like this, I did complete a weekend intense tefl course a couple of years ago but haven't used it yet (which isn't very good!), I think the internship seems like a really good way to something like this, have you? x

Hi Everyone,

I'm doing my i-to-i tefl course at the moment and I'm hoping to book the internship next month (when I've got some money). Does anyone know how many places there are? I really don't want out on this and I didn't realise people would be committing to it so soon. This is also my first time of doing anything like this.

I'm going. Can't wait. Well gonna work work work until xmas, quick break touring Thailand for 5 weeks, back home working again then packing it all in to go in April. What am I doing? Looks like more than likely internships are in Lop Buri, full of monkeys and temples lol. Just about as central as you can get though.

I have signed up too! Trying desperatley to finish the TEFL course in the time I have left to do it! At checkpoint one at the moment and it's taking forever, another 120 hours to go! Has eveyone else completed their course?

I'm not sure how many places there are, I'm still saving so hopefully there's a few! It looks like it would be a really fantastic way to see a new country/culture! Does anyone know how much it is for May, it doesn't look like there's a cost displayed anywhere?

Hey! I am considering signing up for the internship, I am incredibly excited but also just as terrified at the prospect of teaching and living in Thailand. I would love to hear from anybody thinking of going to Thailand in general!

I spoke to an i-to-i rep and she said there are plenty of places left and they are creating more spaces for May because Oct 11 was so popular!

great news! I'll hold on until mid october before committing then. Can't wait!

Hi again! Oh I'm so glad that some other people have signed up too. I've been away on holiday for a couple of weeks so I'm just getting started on my online tefl now, eek. I found this great website http://thaischoollife.com/ by this guy who's been teaching in Thailand for 17+ years, I would recommend having a look at that if you've signed up or thinking about signing up, it's what swayed me.

Looking forward to getting to know those of you who are going in April :) Anyone know any Thai?

Also, does anyone have any recommendations about what age group to teach? x

Ps @Rachel83 I think it was around £1,200 when I signed up, but it may have changed, and it may also be different for you if you already have some tefl qualifications... You might be best phoning i-to-i directly and asking them if that's the case x

Hi all,

I too have decided to book a place on the Thailand Internship!

Big decision but after all of the information I have read, and after talking to a few people I know who have been there, I am SO excited!

I'm getting through the 140 hour course quite slowly, however. Didn't realise it would be so much to take in haha! Really looking forward to the classroom course next weekend though!

Anyone still unsure... I say go for it! It's going to be the easiest way to break into the world of teaching abroad for sure!

Regards, Gemma Louise

Hello all!!!

jenniferlinning just wanna say thanks that link you left was great! I had a good read of the stories and now have a better understanding of what to expect.

I would also recommend any blogs on this site as some are hilarious and focus a little more on life outside of the classroom and what to expect when you arrive.

CAN'T WAIT!

I'm just wondering, those of you who have started the course are you filling out the application now or are you supposed to wait until you have passed the whole thing?

I was also wondering about the application. When they sold me the internship i-to-i told me that I had to submit my degree, passport info etc but I don't know where or when to do this. Any ideas anyone?

Hey guys!

Glad you liked the link Katie, if you haven't looked at the videos on that site then check them out, the kids are so cute!

The girl I spoke to on the phone said that I was to get started on the application process as soon as possible, as your place isn't fully confirmed until the employers in Thailand have approved your application. Apparently they might even phone you for a telephone interview.. :S

Martin if you log into your Learning Portal you use for the tefl course, and scroll down to 'Internships'. Below that there should be a link to the Lawoe Thailand internship, follow this link to another page and go to 'Next Steps'. You can complete the application here and there is also information about applying for a visa etc.

Hope that helps!

I've found it now, cheers Jenn. I Best get started with the application. By the way I'll echo Katie by saying that the link to the school life site is great. It's so handy to have all that experience in Thailand on one site. I've also been reading the blogs on the chalkboard and they're useful for getting a sense of what it's like over there, some of them are also pretty entertaining.

Hi all,

I am currently out in Lop Buri teaching, just about to finish the term and love it so much I am staying for a second term. Any questions please feel free to ask. Lop Buri is central and at the moment there are around 25 interns here and others in other central areas of Thailand. It is one of the best things i have done and I love it.

Hello Everyone! I think I will apply for the April-Ocotber scheme that they have, but I would very much appreciate any kind of advice that people would like to give me regarding anything and everything.

If not, I'll keep you posted as to what I am doing.  XXXX

Hi everyone! I'm looking into this Thailand internship for May 2012 pretty seriously so I'm glad to have found this. One of the big things stopping me though is obviosuly saving enough (because I also want to do a 50 day backpacking trip before starting the internship) so I had a question. Are we able to pay for the internship/Bangkok classroom lessons seperately if we have the TEFL certification elsewhere? I only ask because I have seen other internet offers for the 120-140 hour TEFL certificate which are much cheaper. Or is the 5.5 month internship something i-to-i offers as a combined package only? Any help would be much appreciated! :)

Hi Meiling,

You don't necessarily have to do both together. I paid for my course first and then topped up the internship afterwards. But I'm pretty sure the internship is done through i-to-i so the TEFL course has to be done through them. Though don't quote me on that , on the list of things we have to take over to Thailand it says 'TEFL certificates' it doesn't specify that they have to be i-to-i. I would give i-to-i a call and see what they say.
