I've got a Plan!

I am excited. I think that’s partly because it’s Friday and I don’t have to process any more ISA’s until Monday. It's not much, but I am really massively happy about this! Counting the days...

Until Christmas leave! We have just 5 more teaching days to go until the holidays, for the teachers at least. Staff must work until the 23rd of December! A little unfair and not really nesacarry as 95% of the students we have come from privileged backgrounds, they have to due to the cost of sending a child to the school! Which means that they won’t be coming to EF looking for courses as they will...

When Life Throws You Lemons… Just Head to Ban Phe Beach

We arrived in Ban Phe today – a safe haven from the floods elsewhere, which have left much of Thailand underwater and many a trip ruined as hundreds of areas shut down. Luckily, with an incredible in-country team, led by none other than our beloved Masako, the Thailand interns (and myself!) got a real treat as a result of the floods. As the in-country teams sorted out the interns’ school contracts, we headed to Ban...

Ready to Teach in Thailand?

Please note: This blog was written before departing for Thailand. I have since been here a week and have a hell of a lot to say about my experience so far, however I thought this was still worth posting. The real blogging starts soon!)   “Toothbrush? Check.”“Phone charger? Yup.”“Passport? Uh-huh.”“Bug spray? Noooo...”Mum was sitting beside me; both of us were staring at the mountainous pile of clothes, books, brick-a-brack, cables, toiletries, and goodies - all...

Using Stories in the Preschool ESL Classroom

Do you want to start using stories in the preschool ESL classroom but don't know where to start?  There are many great pre-k activities for ESL classrooms, including games, but it's also very important to not discount the power of stories.  Whether you're reading a classic book, making up a story as you go along or designing a story specifically for a particular lesson, you'll want to be sure to include stories in the preschool...

A bit about me

Hi,  Thought I would take this opportunity to share a bit about myself and the next step and would love feedback. After leaving the Uk in 1999 I have enjoyed eight years living in Holland. Had my own company for five years. I also worked in a large financial company Dun & Bradstreet and later freelance finance.  After closing the company I joined BHP Billiton in Cape ship Operations. I was offered a great package...

2/3rds of the way through the course

I am at present taking a TEFL 120hrs course in Thailand.  This course also has 6 evaluated teaching presentations to complete.  This course also has a TEYL (Teaching Early Young Learners section) The academic part is very intensive especially the Grammar section and the teaching to Asian students section.  On the whole I am finding the experience intensive but very rewarding. Having now completed 4 out of the 6 classroom presentations my confidence has really...
