This group is still getting started… Here are some blog posts to get you thinking

Counting the days...

Until Christmas leave! We have just 5 more teaching days to go until the holidays, for the teachers at least. Staff must work until the 23rd of December! A little unfair and not really nesacarry as 95% of the students we have come from privileged backgrounds, they have to due to the cost of sending a child to the school! Which means that they won’t be coming to EF looking for courses as they will...

Delightful Balinese children & a lesson in cultural experiences

I just spent a week in Bali doing a fitness retreat in a small village about 30 minutes from Ubud. The local children were delighful and tried to teach me some Balinese.....got plenty of laughs at my efforts but it reminded me of the difficulties faced in learning a new language. Gave me pause for thought as I prepare for China. The children also decided to teach me some local dancing on our final night...

It's been a while

The title says it all, Since arriving in China just over 4 months ago I haven't had much time to write on the chalkboard site. But now things are changing, I am leaving my job at EF and moving to work for a kindergarten in the same city, the hours are better and the pay is more which folks gives me more time to start blogging on a regular basis again.   So starting from...

WOW how time flies

I've just realised its been nearly a month since I posted an entry and I really dont know where the time has gone. As the saying goes 'time flies when you are having fun" so I'll put it down to that! Every day's a school day

It’s funny how life throws you curve balls and gives you what you need, not necessarily what you want, right? Well, I did not want Kindergarten. I wanted anything but Kindergarten. ANYTHING. My general attitude to children goes along the lines of they’re as fine as soon as they’re old enough to ask funny questions and have opinions, toddlers are fun to chase for about ten minutes and babies are mostly boring but they can’t...

Kindergarten Revisited

Sometimes, I hate my job. I was heading up the stairs to my last kindergarten class, and as I rounded the corner I saw, on the emerging landing, a small boy gleefully weeing on his friend’s shoes rather than the bucket so placed for the purpose. OH MY LADY GAGA. I’m developing strategic tunnel vision and deafness and can ignore the stares and phlegm hacking of adults and kids using the toilet pots in the...
