Hi guys! just joined the August trip, very excited! Are there any other diabetics on the trip? what are you doing with your insulin? (are you taking your entire supply out with you or are you getting it there/ having it sent out to you?) what insurance companies are you using? world nomads doesnt seem to cover pre-existing conditions in the UK. I'm only recently diagnosed, but I've done SE Asia with this condition... only for a month though. If anyone can give me some pointers i would be verrrrrry grateful!! Thanks! |

Hi there, I'm also signed up on the August trip, I'm diabetic as well, going to see the doc next week and enquire. I have looked on the web and it seems GP may issue a 3 month supply? If possible I would like to get a 6 month supply and take it all with me. If not will have to see if it's available out there and worst case scenario I suppose would be to get someone to Fed-Ex it out on a 48 hr delivery. All new territory for me as well at the moment. Will let you know what I find out in the week. Haven't looked at insurance yet, I currently have an annual policy which covers type I diabetes so will check if they offer an extended policy first. Let me know how you're getting on too! Cheers Jules |

hi jules!!! thanks for the advice, great to know i'm not alone! we shouldnt have too many problems. im planning to bring about 6 months supply aswell (if i'm lucky) but i was told you can get apidra out there, but not lantus if you use those insulins, they should have another 24 hour 1 though so iv emailed a copy of my prescription to myself if i need to grab some out there, that is if i cant get any sent to me. thanks for the link! i was having trouble finding something to put my pens in... at one point i was considering a thermos :s theres a good company called fogg insurance that covers you for diabetes and teaching, so you can buy a policy for the exact amount of time you are out there, and the best part is you can extend it if you decide to stay. keep me posted dude, catch you in beijing! |

Hi Harry, Managed to get my GP to agree a 6 month supply (result!) so I'm well pleased with that. Also ordered 4 of the XL Frio packs which should cover me for the time I'm out there. Got another policy with my old travel insurer Travel Insurance Web, took a single policy for 215 days which worked out at £110 or £210 with diabetes covered, I obviously took the latter. Thought though for £1 a day not too bad at all. Pretty much all set, hoping the hotel room has a fridge or at least a fridge somewhere that we can use. Are you all sorted? Cheers, Jules |

Thank you for the Post Jules. I have a peanut allergy and was wondering what I would do about keeping my Epipen safe. Champion link! |
