Where Are YOU Spending Christmas?

Hi TEFLers! There's only 7 sleeps until Christmas! The decorations are up, the christmas CD has been on repeat since November and the dust has been brushed off your favourite reindeer jumper.  We want to know where and how you're spending Christmas this year? For example, are you having a BBQ on the beach in Thailand or are you having a 'traditional' dinner with your expat friends in China etc. OR if you're already home...

Two months in

It's mid-November and time for another update. I have been in Madrid for eight weeks now. The last time I posted I was about to start my second week of teaching which came with the added bonus of being my very first four-day week... It turned out to be a week of firsts actually. I kick-started a social life by going to my first-ever Meet Up. For those not in the know meetup.com is a platform...

Where to go?

Hey everyone! As a new person to TEFL, and kinda lost when it comes to what places to look into once my 140 hour combined course is completed, I need a little help :) I have completed secondary school, and spent under a year in Sweden, and now  I am back in Eire! I intend on attending university in Fall 2013, so without having a degree, what countries would one recommend teaching in to start...

Finding work

I've been debating the idea of being a teacher for about 4 years, but since moving to Madrid I kind of dismissed the idea, even after I managed to get some 6 months of experience in! Teaching small children through play was initially easy, but my lack of experience did show through and eventually I ended up working at what I knew and left teaching. With unemployment so high and having a baby to care...

In Madrid

I've now been in Madrid for two whole weeks (yay!) so it's time for an update. I arrived late on Monday 24 September and found my hostel without too much trouble. I attempted to check in using my (fairly rusty) Spanish, but as soon as the receptionist spoke, I was lost. Fortunately, his English was in a more usable state than my Spanish. That said, the 'female-only' dorm I'd booked turned out to have a...
