It comes in waves

You're a dreamer, he said, just like your mother. You embark on a journey from home to find something greater--greater than what, God knows--only to make 4 right turns; 4 decisions which reinforce the same patterns over and over again until you end up where you left off. And when you get back to the point of origin it's as if you rediscover the unique qualities which always draw you home, until you grow bored,...

Le Famille Resistance

I've been dealing with some formidable resistance back home. It makes sense to me that my fiance is mad I want to leave, and that this life decision jeapordizes our future plans in a big way. Truthfully, the jeapordization must have happened long before the decision to travel and teach abroad was made or I would not have moved in such a direction to begin with...regardless, it is painstakingly clear that this is not his...

Vacaciones!

At last! We started the English Centre way back in January and have been working ever since without a break (well oK I managed to 'long weekend' twice - mother's 80th (UK) and my GF's brother's birthday (Belgium)) but it's been a long slog. Certificate: check. Now what?

My grand plan, coming out of University, was to take off to Spain to teach English to students there.   But now I'm all daunted at the prospect. So many unanswered questions!   Like, how much support will there be? What will I earn - enough to support myself, or drain the bank? Can I make something happen in the next 6 month window before I have a place on a course in journalism? Can...

Summercat

*This is an account I wrote a while ago, of a particularly beautiful day in Spain, spent with my friend Emma* "EMMA!" "I'm over this!" she moans as she slams on the breaks and we recieve an ear full of abuse. Your average spanish old senor, simply trying to cross the road, before we show up on the roads. "Em, seriously! It's a zebra crossing! You have to stop for these people" This is the third time...
