Hey all,

I posted a blog entry before when I really should've been posting a topic... oops!

I'm interested in signing up for the teaching in China internship, but I haven't completely made up my mind yet. I've heard some horror stories, such as walking into a classroom of 50 rowdy 5-year-olds and not having anything prepared for the class.

Is there anyone on here who's done the internship or just taught in China before? I have so many questions!

Thank you!

i arrived in beijing last week and i have just been given my placement in the national institute of technology, which is a really prestigious private school. i was told i would be an assistant for as long as i feel, and when i was ready i could handle classes on my own, which to be fair gave me a well needed sense of releif as the previous days with i2i have been a series of misunderstandings, white lies and contract breaches (im gonna hafta talk to them personally before giving you the details, dont want to tar the wrong donkey) but just as i was feeling relieved for the first time in ages, my supervisor is not in today so i will have to teach classes on my own. thats no good to me, i have never taught before and have nothing prepared. i have a few hours to get over my heart attack and then its game time. wish me look, ill let you know how it goes.

Don't worry Rich, just make sure you have a lesson prepared, If you're stuck for ideas or don't have a curriculum to follow then google something. There are loads of lesson plans already online that you can adapt to suit your class. Just remember to have fun with the kids and you know more about English than they do, so relax and if it all goes wrong, don't worry! it happens to everyone in their first couple of lessons! Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes!

Hey Rich,

I'm sorry to hear you're having a tough time.  If you need some teaching materials then a good website I've found is:  http://www.eslbase.com/worksheets.asp (you'll need to create a username and password but don't have to pay!) and also http://esl.about.com/.  However, if it's your first class, then I'm sure the students will want to ask you questions and also you can do some conversational games.  Don't worry!  They won't expect you to be amazing - and all they will want is a friendly, fun teacher :-)  If you need any further help, just ask!  Good luck.

disaster is the best word for the lesson. i was given a lesson plan 20 minutes after the class had finished. i pulled some things together for an intermediate level class but when i got there they were beginners, so that was that out of the window. i shouldnt have been there on my own. let me know how everyone else is getting on, it may make me feel better.

Hey Guys,

I'm thinking of doing the China internship in February 2011 and I just wondered, for those of you that have already done it - what is the accomodation like?

It states that you get a private bedroom, so does this mean that you share a bathroom and kitchen?  I'm planning on calling the helpline but I thought i'd ask some people that have actually done the internship first.

My main question and concern is "do you have to share a bathroom?"

Thanks alot in advance and I hope you're all having a great time x

P.s. I posted this in another topic before I saw this one so apologies for the repeat posting!

Has anyone here had an unsuccessful application?

I have and just trying to figure out why as I meet all the requirements and have all the qualifications and experience travelling and with children. if anyone else has been refused please contact me.

When i joined up i was told a very small amount of people get refused due to language barriers or not complete the course, I have no language barrier as english is my first language and my mothers tongue, and at the end of this week i would of finished my course, so im totally confused at why I have been rejected and ITOI cant answer as they only organise they have no say or decision in the final applicants.

Now I know there are still plenty of places so if anyone has any ideas I would be curious to hear them.
