This is a post for those who are doing the internship in China in January 2012 and who want to fly out early for Chinese New Year.

I know a few people have mentioned it, and I thought it might be a good idea that if a group of us wanted to do this, we could plan it together. That way we can get to know each other before the orientation, we can save some money on a hotel by sharing rooms and we wouldn't be on our own! Plus, we could all enjoy the New Year together and party hard in Beijing!

What do you reckon?

Loren :)

I'd be well up for this. Seems like an event that'd be easy to experience (given it just means going a week or so earlier) so it'd be stupid not to at least consider it

Cheers

Chris

It's only a case of booking a hostel really. If we get a group together, we can all stay in one dorm and it'll be dirt cheap!

Wow sounds like a great idea, I would definitely be up for that! :D

I'm definitely going to go. I'm meant to have an A Level exam on the 25th, but I was only going to retake it so that I could go to uni, which I am now not doing. So that can be put off for a while. Anyway, all my coursework would have to be in for middle of December, and since I am working full time I doubt I'll be able to get everything finished. I'm wanting to fly on the 21st as well.

I'll probably fly from Heathrow actually. Seems cheaper plus it looks like more people will be flying from there. Check out www.hostelworld.com - mega cheap dorms! I found one for £2.07 per night! That was for a mixed dorm that sleeps 4.

For anyone wanting to fly out for CNY, I have found a fantastic hostel! It's called Candy Inn and it's right in the heart of Beijing. Check out this link for more details and prices: http://www.hostelworld.com/hosteldetails.php/Candy-Inn/Beijing/32631

I think this sounds like a fantastic idea!

I haven't signed up to the internship yet - I've only got until the 30th to decide, but if I do I will seriously consider joining you guys.

I'm from NZ so all the talk in pounds is gobble-de-gook - but I've just followed the link to the Candy in and can see that it is cheap as.

I think that's my main concern at the moment - trying to work out how much this will all cost. I think I can do it based on the figures I've read in the promo material and looking and flight and insurance quotes - but you never know what you don't know.

For what its worth, I was in Beijing for Chinese new year this year annd it was AWESOME. The hostel suggested is in a good location - convenient to see the "sights' but in amongst the hutongs so you will get a feel for the lives of the locals. i stayed in the hutongs and simply loved the atmosphere. Suggest you book early as the closer it gets the harder accommodation is to come by and the more expensive it gets.

Best of luck and hope you enjoy your first Chinese New Year

cheers, Katie.

ahhhhhhh I'm so down for this!! I've always wanted to experience the Chinese new year! Anyone flying in from the US? New York specifically? I'd rather have a travel buddy for the 17-20+ hour flight :)

Hi,  I got my acceptance letter on Thursday, so am starting to get my head round organising myself.  Is there a Facebook page for everyone on the January 2012 Internship?  Chinese New Year sounds fab.
