Has anyone gone to China with a friend or partner? We don't need to teach at the same school but living together is the idea. Any info on teaching English as a couple would be great! |

My partner and i are teaching and living together in China, look for schools with multiple positions..many schools prefer couples as they see them as more stable than a 20 year old single...many job posts say couples welcome...if no on campus they will supply you with an apartment together off campus |

Hi A lot of schools will have multiple positions open at any given time because it is very common for teachers to come to a school for a limited time. At my school currently we have 3 openings in the near future and hiring a couple would be a very good choice. Partly, you get more than one teacher, which is ideal, secondly the two teachers then already know someone at the new place where they are working and might find it easier to adjust having someone around that they know. The school that I work for, Joy Children's Language school, has 6 schools in the city of Luoyang, Henan, China. The schools are spread out across the city, but all our foreign teachers live together in an apartment complex and we have apartments suitable for singles and couples :) So it is definitely possible! |

Hi, I'm also planning to go to China with my partner to teach English. Will it be a problem if we're not married yet? It would be nice if someone could give us some advice where we can search for a teaching position. @MSLarsen: are there still openings at your school? Could you give me more information about the school?

Hi Cindy, if you google Joy schools you should be lucky as they dont have a long break for summer. I was offered a job in Henan but the winters are quite severe. I have worked for Joy school in Dazhou and Wuxi and I had a great time. Classes of no more thanfifteen and very supportive staff made my time there go very quickly. It was my first experience of teaching and I learnt a lot. Check your contract very carefully as they are |

they are very tricky and will try to confuse you and take advantage. The lesson planning and organising props for lessons is very easy as they work from set books and use flash cards. Try and get a housing allowance and find your own apartment as I found the apartments that Joy school supplied were not really to western standards. Give me a shout if you have any questions. Good luck, Victor |
