Hi Everyone,
It's Amy. I am from Jinan IELTS Training School, located at Jinan, Shandong, China. Our school was established in 2001. We mainly focus on English skill training for K-adults. We have over 20 full time teachers and we are authorized to hire foreign teachers. Each year there are approximately over 3000 students get trained in our school. Therefore, we are thirsty for foreign teachers. There are some requirements in the following.
1. We need English teachers, male or female, who teach k-adults. It will be the best they are under the age of 40.
2. They all must be native speakers who love children and education. Their classes need to be flexible and energetic.
3. Each week we require approximately 25hr-32hr of teaching.
4. We require at least one year contract
In addition, we provide:
1. 5000(RMB)+ monthly salary for experienced English teachers. Also, monthly salary is negotiable for non-experienced buy qualified English teachers.
2. Once a year two-way interantional air ticket.
3. Free accommodation with furniture.
4. There is a national travel in China for 2 weeks.( approximately equal to 5000RMB value)
5. Working location is in Jinan, China. Jinan is the capital city in Shandong Province.
Plus, if you are available, you can call me at anytime. My cell phone is on for 24 hours.
Thanks,
Amy Xue

25-32 hrs a week, plus lesson planning and marking etc, is a full time job. 5000RMB isn't really a good wage for a total beginner at that rate, let alone an experienced teacher. My 2 cents anyways |

I know very little about teaching overseas except what I have read on here and what my 3 friends who have done it have told me. I would have to agree, less than $800 USD a month is VERY low. My friends who taught in Taiwan made about $1,600 USD a month and my friend in China is making $2,200 USD a month. All three worked about 25-35 hrs a week. |

Steve, I have seen teaching jobs advertised on the net that will pay all sorts of silly money for qualified and experienced english teachers. The average for a TEFL newbie is about 5000, sure, but I am guessing his friend is not. To be fair, I get 5000 for about 10 hours teaching a week. Times that by 3 and you get 30 (Pretty close to the 35 mentioned above) and we're talking 15000 kwai (About $2,300). I guess some are just luckier than others when it comes to teaching hours etc. Personally I am more than happy with my 5000 a month right now, as it's more than enough to live on. I guess I value my personal time as much as money. |

Yes, you are right. Unless someone lives to work, you don't need to work that hard to get by here. |

Hi everyone. I live and work in Hong Kong and have a working Visa here. This salary is VERY VERY LOW INDEED. The cost of living is not THAT LOW in China. After all we don't just work for pleasure do we? This salary would be OK for two weeks work not a month and remember that schools in China are given good budgets to employ English Teachers. So on that basis alone, this is really an unacceptable salary..especially if you went to the effort of achieveing a TEFL/TESOL. There are many jobs in China with better salaries. Best wishes and good luck. |

Although I agree with half of what you're saying, Hong Kong is nothing like mainland China. I have been to both, and mainland China (Especially the smaller cities) is FAR cheaper than Hong Kong. The wage stated above is easily livable on in the mainland. This said, it is still very low for the hours worked. |
