hey iv just started the tefl course and am trying to complete the first checkpoint. im having alot of trouble with question 4. i understand the question and what needs to be done but im having difficulty seperating them into categories. i have verbs, things to but (countable) things to but (uncountable) and im left with plastic bag, carton and go shopping. a subtle hint or oush in the right direction would be very mush appreciated
Thanks xx |

Hey those categories are fine, you can put 'go shopping' into the verbs (actions) section. As for the plastic bag and carton, I'm sure they could be placed somewhere in your countable list. If not you could alternatively use another category for those perhaps? I seem to remember using a category for storage items / containers. Best of luck! |

Hey I've just started the 120 hour tefl course too and am attempting the first checkpoint. For the first two questions is there actually a wrong answer or is it simply opinion and then your answer is fine as long as you back it up with reasons? Also having a bit of trouble determining the level of the student in the last question, my initial reaction was upper intermediate but now im not sure. Any help would be great :-) x |

Hi, I've just started Checkpoint 1 and am not sure if I'm going in the right direction. |

If anyone wants a study chum... |

Hello, I am also stuck on these questions. Looks like there are a few of us at the same stage. I have decided to leave q's 3 and 4 until tomorrow now because they are annoying me. I didn't expect to get stuck on something so soon!! So I am now debating on the level of the student. I'm thinking intermediate because this is the definition ' Able to communicate in English, though still with a lot of errors. Aware of all main tenses and grammar structures. Quite high level of vocabulary'. What do you think? Does aware mean they know but don't always use it? |

Hi Hungtran- What are the questions on 3 and 4? I don't think all of our questions are the same. -Delnada |

Gosh, I sure need a study chum. I've just started the TEFL course and am finding it extremely 'challenging'. I always thought I was fairly intelligent, but am starting to doubt that now. I'm only on the first Checkpoint and am struggling. |

Just started tefl course and also stuck on the blackboard one, was going to list under shopping list but its to vague? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

I thought about how I would present the words if I was using a substitution table and a mind map. That helped to create my groups. I added a few articles and combined the 'containers' with nouns that hadn't been paired up. The main thing I think is not to over complicate. |

Hi I just started the tefl course too and I was pretty comfortable with the quizzes but now I am struggling to complete the first check point. I am freaking out already. |

OMG I'm stuck of most of the questions! Very depressing cos I cant move forward ... any help would be appreciated!!!! |

I'm having some trouble with question 12. I'm pretty sure the student is at intermediate level, but I'm having trouble defining exactly why. So far I've pinpointed awkward improper sentence structure and improper use of gerund as the primary problems. Any input would be appreciated! |

I do understand your point. Me too, I had the same feeling yesterday and took a break since I am down with a cold.... |

Thank goodness for this posting!! I have had to postpone CP1 due to the board, I don't know if the lists I'm arranging are too simple, but then again I don't want to make them too complicated as it is TEFL Basics! So I have moved on with the grammar awareness for now, that is until I read this posting :) It's shown me that it's not just me then having difficulties with it, and I thought CP1 was going to be the easy one, perhaps it is! :(

Hello all on question 3 to start with the Going Shopping is the main heading. I group these into two the first was anything that was a transaction. The second group was any item that could be bough in a store. it's mainly just a list. On question 4 just think about taking a younger child to shop what could you do to make the time go better like organize the list. This why using the list means less time taken and getting all that you are looking for the first time. The answer should also be close to 75 words remember.

I have not started the course yet, but will do so in about a week. However, I was reading all of your concerns about questions 3 & 4 and I'm wondering if any of you have received any help from the tutors that are supposedly included when you pay for your course? Surely someone at i-to-i must know that these questions are causing all of these issues...of have any of you perhaps spoken to them directly? Please let me know. Thanks! |

hi, well my tutor just writing comment about my tests. thats all. i never spoke with him, i dont even know, how i can be in contact wiht him. |

Hey you guys doing the 1st checkpoint, I did it 2 weeks ago after panicking on here, and it really is not as difficult as you think, seriously I think it is easy to over complicate things, keep it simple, and go for it, remembering to be within the recommended word counts. You can email the help email (I've seen it somewhere) but seriously at this early stage, it would be ok to submit and see how you go, as if you fail then you can learn from the comments the tutuor gives you and try again. I found this post is what encouraged me to just go for it http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/pdixon/posts/4345-help-i-m-stuck-on-check-point-1-5 I wish you all luck :) |

What happens if you fail 3 times? Also, can you move on to the quizzes and go back to the Checkpoint after? Or does it have to be all in the order that the quizzes and assignments are listed? |
