While speaking the local language while you’re teaching English abroad isn’t a must-have, getting at least a basic understanding of it can really enrich your experience of living and working in another country – it’ll be easier to make new friends, get around, not to mention avoid getting ripped off! Getting your first TEFL job is exciting, exhilarating…. and down-right frightening! Don’t worry though – steer clear of these 5 most common TEFL mistakes and you’ll be fine!
Teaching from a course book can get a bit stale if you don’t utilise it and inject some fun. Some teachers avoid using their course book like the plague, whilst others confess to relying on it too much. Balance is the key. What’s more…teaching children is rewarding and great fun! Having your students walking into your classroom in eager anticipation for your lesson is payment in itself. But how can you transform yourself into this magical teacher? Well….
Immersing yourself in new cultures, experiences, tastes and sounds on your TEFL adventures can be life-enriching, but beware – it can also lead to a spot of culture shock!
Struggling with your present continuous and past participles, or other such grammatical joys? Don’t panic! Post your question here and hopefully some helpful fellow teachers or TEFL tutors will give you some handy pointers!
N.B - please do not ask for or post quiz answers here - by all means give tips, but copying isn't cool!
