Hi Which countries/cities am I likely to find work when I am an inexperienced TEFLer? |
|
|
Most probably China or South America it seems. I am in the same situation, recently finished my TEFL and all i have is a years worth of being a teacher's assistant. I'm looking into Korea, China and South America? They seem to need teachers more than most other countries and thus your chances should be better.
I hope any of this helps :) peace and happiness.

I wouldn't really call a years worth of being a TA no experience! In this proffession I'd say a lot of people kinda expect you not to have too much experience, and I can tell you that when I came to South Korea with a TEFL course, 3 months TEFLing and half a PGCE under my belt they told me I had loads of experience! I didn't think so (in fairness, I was paid the same as someone with no experience). I think Korea is a good bet, as are most places in Asia I think. If you are from the EU, Europe is a little harder, but still possible, and like herman said, South America is always worth looking at. The only places you probably won't find any work without experience are probably English speaking countries and the Middle East. |

Thanks guys...And I wanted to know if there are any responsive agent links (mail ids) to apply for jobs in Korea, China and South America...Or is an paid internship the only way to go, for a newbie...Well, not as a teacher, but I have over 9 years of experiance running the corporate rat race. |

Hi all . . . I too am a newbie to TEFL and would like to teach in Africa. I've gotten a couple of things on this site for South Africa (which is what I'm interested in eventually) and those were helpful. Any leads for jobs (volunteer or otherwise)? -- BTW, I'm headed to Senegal tomorrow a.m. so it might be a few days :) -- Ann |

Hi guys, I went straight out to South America without any experience and got jobs pretty quickly. They were just happy that I spoke English and that their students could get experience speaking to a native English teacher. I've got jobs on arrivals in various countries, take a look at my blog here http://teachingenglishinaforeignland.blogspot.com/2011/11/blog-about-whether-we-are-teaching.html for more details. Good luck
