Hi all.
I am looking to teach in the UAE, and have exhausted my options as to where to look. I have a degree, and have completed the 105 hours TEFL course with i-to-i. Many websites I am finding require me to have two years teaching experience of TEFL, I have none. Needless to say, I studied for the TEFL last year, and have not used these skills, thus was wondering if any one can suggest anything for me to be up to scratch once more with teaching, etc.
Any support would be majorly appreciated. Amirah |

Amirah, have you tried the British Council in Dubai? I have just attended the i to i workshop and they suggested they were good employers. They may require you to do the CELTA course, however. I am just about finished my i to i course and am just starting looking for opportunitues in Dubai.

Hey I have also been advised to take CELTA as that is more recongised in the Middle East, rather than TEFL, Can anybody shed some light on this issue? |

There are two types of jobs in the Middle East - TEFL jobs and jobs in International Schools. For the former, you generally need two years' solid experience and, more often than not, a CELTA/Trinity CertTESOL. For the latter, you need to be a qualified primary/secondary school teacher. In Dubai there seems to be a preference for male teachers (possibly because most of the students are male), although it is possible for females to find work. I believe my (female) i-to-i tutor works in the UAE. Note that to work for the British Council anywhere you need a minimum of two years' experience plus a CELTA or Trinity CertTESOL.
