I used to live in Buenos Aires and I'm looking to go back there to teach as soon as I can afford the flight. If anyone has taught there and could give me some advice on schools etc, please contact me. Or if anyone is looking to go to BA I can give you some general advice about living in the city, but not on the teaching aspect unfortunately. Ewan. |

I visited BA a couple of years ago and am considering going back to teach. I would love to hear some of your advice about living there! How long ago did you live there? What were the costs of living like? What was a good area? I love BA, and Argentina in general really. |

I've been living in Argentina for almost 3 years, but only just moved to BsAs 2 months ago. I've been to 40+ countries and lived in 6 different countries on 5 different continents and relatively speaking (comparing average income with what things cost) Argentina is by far and away the most expensive place to live on the planet. The nices places to live are way, way out of reach if you're going to teach English, so forget about Palermo or Barrio Norte, and Puerto Madero might as well be on the moon! If you like live music, a lot of good bands come here - just recently we've had Radiohead, Kraftwerk, Pet Shop Boys, Depeche Mode, Juan Luis Guerra....best start saving up though, as each one would have cost 2 weeks wages to get in. Unfortunately I'm stuck here for at least 16 years because I want to see my little boy grow up, but I wouldn't recommend Argentina for a long-term stay unless you come with a wedge of cash to set yourself up. Sorry. |

I'm checking out BA & Patagonia next month but I don't think I want to teach in a capital city. |

I have never taught in Buenos Aires, so I can't comment on that aspect, but I studied abroad there for about 3.5 months in 2007 and it was fantastic! The city has some gorgeous architecture, if you can see it through the throngs of people everywhere. I found Argentines to be very nice and friendly and very interested in having discussions with Americans (at least the people I met). There is always so much going on, either cultural or political events, so you will never be bored in the city! Compared to living in the United States, it was cheap to live in B.A., though I think B.A. is one of the most expensive cities in Latin America. I have recommended B.A. and Argentina in general to all my family and friends who want to travel. |

I was told that there aren't many teaching jobs in Argentina - is this true? I haven't seen many advertised on my travels! What's the average wage there? |
|

I'm off to BA tomorrow!! I'm just there for a holiday. I know a friend who taught in BA and he said that the cost of living was very high although he managed financially. However, this was a few years ago when things were cheaper but now I heard Argentina is slowly climbing to the old prices before the economic crisis in 2001. I know my trip will be a very expensive one for me especially being in BA and Patagonia. |
