Hi,

I've been studing the 140hr course and am looking to go to Argentina in Feburary...But I have a few questions!

  1. Would you recommend flynig out without a job and trying to wing it? Which is the best way?

  2. In terms of TEFL wages, is Argentina a good place to live - I've read a lot about it being expensive and renting being expensive...which worries me...

  3. I've started to learn Spanish - but I imagine I won't be particulary fluent in only 4 months - how important is it to speak the native language when teaching...

Any help to these questions would be welcome!! I'm so excited to go - I'd go tomorrow if I could!!

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Nick,
You may like to chat to one of our Chalkboard users. Her name is Gabriela and she lives in a small city in the province of Cordoba, Argentina and has been teaching English for 10 years. I'm sure she will be able to give you some useful information.

With regards to speaking Spanish, it is often better for a TEFL teacher to only speak English as this encourages students not to slip back into speaking in their native language. Having some knowledge of Spanish however, is sure to help with day to day life in Argentina.

Good luck with everything Nick!

I'm very new to this TEFL business but I can tell you a lot about what it's like to live in Argentina... feel free to email me or add me to a chat contact if you're interested.
