I have a suspicion that you are somewhere very warm at the moment- stay there for now, as it's kinda cold here!
For visa requirements, I suggest you contact your own Embassy- the ex travel agent in me always gives that advice just in case I'm wrong...:$
I odn't have a degree and am teaching here. From what I can gather, it's similar anywhere in the world- although degrees may be required by government regulation, there is always a school somewhere who will be prepared to offer teaching roles to native speakers, as long as you are prepared to search to find one!
Do you have any other languages?
G.
Hi Georgy,
I see you´re in Czech, I´ve often thought of going there, but don´t know much about it, except that I´ve never heard anyone say anything bad about it. Could you give me a little info on visa requirements? And do you need a degree to teach there, or would a year´s experience and a good reference be enough? Glad you´re getting on well so far? Please keep posting... Alix
thanks for the infos!! which course would you recommend me doing?? some friends told me to do the CELTA course instead of the tefl course what do you think??
Thank for this- more than anything I needed a little reassurance, and you've given me just that.
Ok, I did the special grammar course first as I am not a native speaker and thought that I needed this, it was fantastic, I so enjoyed it and came out with great marks. Then did the ordinary TEFL course, but because I knew that I would be teaching kids I also added the young learners, the teaching with little resourses and the teaching large classes, this because I did not know what exactly to expect. It all helped of course and I recommend all the courses. Online is great, you get good guidance but you must ask for it if you get stuck. I would have loved to do a weekend course to get practice but I did not get around that. I really think that the online courses are very good, and if you have any problem there is great support and help available, I experienced this too. Congrats on you wanting to take the adventure of changing your career!
Hi songlines,
Thanks for this- I guess it's entirely what I need.
What were your experiences during the course?
G.
Hi Georgey, I would say go for it. A university education might help but there are jobs to be found without having same. It depends which country you would be planning to go to. There is so much demand for teachers of English and what with your experience of teaching already in a business environment, you could be more equiped that a lot of us. I took my TEFL last year and I only taught in a volunteer capacity but I only have a diploma of uni, not a degree or so.... anyway I hope you find out more, and wish you the best with your decision.
I'm a little scared. I want a career change, but have no university education. I have however, trained many non UK nationals in business, systems use and soft skills.
I'm on a limited budget, and would like to gain a TEFL certificate.
If there's anyone out there who can offer advice, it will all be gratefully received!
