Day one teaching in new school!

Ok so I havent posted in a while as Ive been all over the place! After I spent a few relaxing days in Huangzou I was sent to my new placement in Tongxiang just an hour away... I was taken for some food and then shown my new living quaters in the school, I have a huge bedroom and a lliving room area (table and chairs) a toilet/shower and a big sink which I have been told is where I have to wash my clothes!! Apart from not having a washing machine everything else is fine! The school as closed on monday for a public holiday so instead of staying about on my own I decided to visit my cousin in Shanghi, I had a brilliant weekend and loved the city, its so modern and good to look at and there are bars galore! My first day of teaching was this morning and I was really nervous as the classes are around 40-50 students and they are aged from 15+ so it was a big difference from my previous school. Once I started the class though it all fell into place and was very enjoyable. The school is so modern they have a huge tv conected to a computer in each classroom, so all I have to do is make one powerpoint presentation a week to teach with. The kids loved hearing about Ireland and where in shock about the size of my family(5 children) and even more shocked about the size of my mothers family( 11 children!) I asked them to tell me about china and themselves and the time of the class really flew by!

There is supposed to be another intern arriving here today but im not sure if he will stay as they don't have proper living quaters for him and expected us to share a room which won't be happening! So hopefully they will sort something out this evening... All in all im feeling much happier and am pleased with my new placement thus far!! :)

I think so far its been better teaching the older ones as its been more interactive, yet it has only been an introductory lesson this week, so im not sure what to teach next week! They have a pretty good level of english but their grammer is not very good so I guess i will have to start there..

Glad you're having a better time of it now!

So, do you enjoy teaching the little ones more or the older kids?

Glad stuffs going well Gaz - keep us posted with how the rest of your teaching goes - are all your students around the 15+ mark?
