I am cofused....again.

After the initial excitement of getting past checkpoint one yesterday, i am now full of horror. I have been working through the grammar modules but seem to have forgotten everything i learned at school. In fact, i am sure that my teacher never taught all of this and i feel like my head is going to explode.

Grammar was never one of my strong points, and although i understand the basics of it all and am good with my nouns and verbs, it is stressing me to the point of baldness (ok, so maybe im being over dramatic there) I can not seem to get my head round all of the tenses and sub catergories. I cant believe that it could be so confusing right now, maybe i am trying to take in too much at once.

Im curious if others remembered the grammar aspects from school? or am i just plain stupid! It almost feels alien to me and i never knew there was so much to grammar, i speak it fine and use all the tenses, but i never knew the names for them. Maybe its time to start to assosiate the tenses and catergories to what i say verbally and try to get it that way.

I have had to physically stop reading the module for a while because i feel like i am going to burst. LOL. I am sure i will get the hang of it over the course of this evening.

I will never take any of my teachers for granted ever again, i just cant get my head round it right now. Time for a walk i think.

I just started the grammar module today and also happened to come across this group. So glad to know that I am not the only one who saw the module and first thought was "Uh, oh." Hope I get through them on the first try like you did!

Congratulations again, see, not so bad once you get started?

I have just passed Checkpoint 3. Oh my gosh that was a hard one to do. I'm actually surprised with myself. LOL. i thought i was going to fail it and have to resubmit it. Pushing forwards quite fast now and feeling quite pleased with myself. haha.

Congrats on passing Checkpoint Two!

Haha about the school learning I was looking at the summary sheets yesterday and when I started I was thinking "Hey I remember this, it should be easy" - Turn over to the next page and I just stopped dead. Don't remember any of this advanced stuff, like you I swear we were never taught it!

At the moment I'm not really working on the course itself and instead just reading and self revising during the random 10-15mins I have spare throughout the day. Hopefully when I get stuck into the course in a couple weeks it will all be easier :)

I think many of us find the grammar the most challenging. Like you the tenses really confused me (still do a bit) and I am sure we were never taught so many when I was at school - granted it was a long time ago!!!!

Eek - sounds like you're having a bit of a time with it, but as Red said, it does get much easier!  Just try to take it in bite-size chunks and if you do get totally stuck give Emma a shout - she's one of the online course tutors and knows the i-to-i course (as well as the ins and outs of grammar) back to front and inside out: http://www.tefl-chalkboard.com/emmafoers

Good luck!

Thanks for the positive encouragement. I have just passed Checkpoint Two...all 3 parts 1st time round. phew. The revision has paid off, though i will probably have forgotten it all again by this time next week. lol. So happy that part is over with =D

Don't worry, it does get easier.  When I started my TEFL for a while I got so confused I almost forgot how to speak English and it's my first language.  It gets a lot better as you go along.

Good luck
