I Completed the EDI CertTEFL!

Hello everybody!

My name is Feroza Isakjee and I have just completed the EDI CertTefl course with i-to-i. I think it was very valuable and a great experience for me. If you do want to gain a CELTA equivalent qualification and you do wish to gain some real practical tefl experience, you should enrol right away!

Here I am in action.

The course is extensive and it can be broken down into three parts: the assignments, the practical classroom element (which is a lot of fun) and the video observations. The assignments aren’t too difficult (so don’t worry!) and the tutor was always quick to mark my work and provide me with excellent feedback throughout the duration of the course.

I think that the reason why I chose the EDI CertTefl course was not only because it is equivalent to a CELTA, but because of the practical element of the course. Those of you who have done the i-to-i tefl online or combined course probably have found it really interesting (as I did) – we learnt many different teaching methodologies and strategies, and also grammar (which I found very tedious!)

The EDI CertTefl was a way for me to put these methodologies and strategies into practice; teaching students in the classroom and gaining that practical experience was really the highlight of the course for me. I think that gaining this practical experience on the course really helped to build my confidence and to develop into a better tefl teacher.

My tutor ‘James Jenkin’ was great! As well as providing constructive feedback for the lesson plans and the assignments, he was always very upbeat and positive. The last thing anyone needs is a boring tutor! James helped all of us tap into our potential as tefl teachers, and was available for us to contact at all times. The constructive feedback that I received from James and my peers on the course allowed me to develop my lesson-plans and my teaching methods, making me more organised and more engaging as a teacher. So thank you James!

Getting feedback from James.

As regards to what my plans are now that I have completed the EDI CertTefl course, I would really like to go to East Asia (South Korea or Japan) and teach EFL there. Besides the delicious cuisine in these places – I do like teppanyaki! – I think that this would be really exciting in terms of having an opportunity to teach English as a Foreign Language and also in terms of experiencing the culture and customs of different countries. At the moment however, I have just been accepted into Newman University College for a Religious Education PGCE, to start this September – I’m to be teaching 11-16 yr olds so wish me luck!. I am still hoping to teach in East Asia though, and I am happy that I can pursue it at anytime, even after I have got my PGCE.

The EDI CertTefl course is only for the duration of 2 months and i-to-i are going to schedule the course in the weekends so you don’t have get bogged down or quit work. I know that it has been a great experience for me and I have met some great people during the course! So...what are you waiting for? Enrol on the course now! Complete the EDI CertTefl and the world will be your oyster!

Well done Feroza, congratulations on getting work in the UK. Thanks for your post it provides much insight into the course and what options may be available once completing a level 5 EFL cert. I too am looking at this but not until I finish my 140 hr online course :)

Good luck with your travels, your teaching and your studies!

Josh
