Help, I need somebody!

I'm really wanting to do this, but wish to make sure I'm doing the right thing and not wasting money or time!

I'm wishing to start with the weekend course, followed by the 140hr online course and depending on if I have any brain-cells left complete a TEYL course as well.

My main concern however, is it seems that most of the countries I wish to go and work for wants you to have a uni degree and of course I do not! Then to make matters worse the countries that do not require for you to have a uni degree ( as per the websites) offer you less money and then continue on how very exspensive the cost of living is-- booooh whooooh. As you can imagine I'm stressed before I've started any of the courses as this seems to be more scary than doing the course itself.

Any advise please, somebody - anybody! Please provide helpfull websites and or books to read up on.

 Regards

It's very possible.  Just depends on where you want to go.  I've noticed EU countries and Japan seem to be the nasties with wanting uni degrees.  Most of the EU want uni degrees and EU passport holders.. or at least one of them.  But you can always try to email them and talk to them too.

Don't panic and don't give up!  Just remember, your first job may not be the exact location you'd LOVE to be teaching.. but it's the experience you'll need and it'll be good for you no matter what. :))

Good luck!!  And when you start your course, if you need help, just let me know!

Ah Steve, that is music to my ears! How long did it take you to find a placement from the time you actively started looking?

I can't wait to get out there and start working and exploring, the people the culture... the homesick :(

Please keep me posted with everything!

Haha - good attitude! Glad it was helpful - best of luck with picking your course and if you need any more help get in touch - you can either message me on here, or give on of the guys in the TEFL team a call on 0800 093 2552.

Hi Honor,

Thanks for the info and the add. I'm so excited I can't wait to get started, but want to make sure I've done all my research. I have considered the internship, but figured that if your gonna do, then let's go all the way-lol!

Hi,

First up don't panic! There are plenty of countries where you can teach without a degree and the majority aren't expensive to live in at all - places like China, Indonesia and Ecuador for instance. There's a good list here: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/travel-guides/135-Do-I-Need-a-Degree-to-TEFL-

One option you might want to look into if you're worried about taking the plunge and finding your first teaching job abroad, is doing a Teach in China Internship (http://www.onlinetefl.com/teaching-internships/china/ ), which includes your course and 5 months in China with 24-hour in-country support, free food and accommodation and a generous living allowance. Plus, you're always placed with at least one other intern so you'll have a partner in crime! If you're interested you can download a free guide here: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-china-guide.html

Hope that helps - if you have any questions get in touch!
