Hey, I've just emailed my friend, but I can answer the question about leaving during the year. You can, it's just that you then can't just get another job in Korea easily. If you give them 30 days notice that you're leaving that's a lot better than just dissapearing. The risk in that is that they might fire you (although they're not allowed to do that). If you really hate your school and you go through one of the public school programs, if there is a reason, they'll generally act as a mediator between you and the school.
Hi thank you for your reply, could you ask your friend whether the pay is enough to save as I want to travel afterwards, I am a bit worried about being to rural do you meet other people or placed in the same area as others? I am thinking about the epik programe or just get hired by a school but I am worried I won't enjoy the country, are you able to cancel your contract during the academic year? I wouldn't want to but just in case!
I know a couple of people doing it, and it seems like a really good deal, especially if you land near a city. The only problem is that you can be really rural, which might be lonely. Also, it tends to be younger people, so you might find that your peers are a bit younger than you, which isn't really a problem, just something to be aware of. It's a lot less hours, which is wonderful if you can find a school that won't make you desk warm. Any specific questions I can ask my friend if you want.
