Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountHi I just booked my 140 hour combined tefl course today. I have received my confirmation email but have not yet received my username and password. Tried ringing the helpdesk and just got a message machine, left a message but does anyone know if there's anyone else I should contact? An email address perhaps? Any help would be much appreciated! :)
Hey sorry for getting back to you so late!!! Well it really depends, both have pros and cons. The money is better (usually) at a private school but you get much less holiday, may have to work weekends and will definately have to work evenings. I work in a public high school and leave at 4 everyday, get weekends off, get national holidays off and get loads of free time during exam periods. So it kind of balances out. Also, I love being part of the high school atmosphere, it really has its rewards. There are a few rumours flying around at the moment that EPIK is getting harder to get accepted in to due to the amount of people renewing their contracts after 1 year, so definately ask these questions to your agency before applying! Hope that helps, and if you have any more questions don't hesitate! Let me know what you decide on! :)
Hi Emma,
Apologies for the delay in getting back to you. I've done the 20 Hour weekend course and am currently working my way through the 120 hour online course. I know what you mean there is a lot of information out there and it can all be a little confusing. In South Korea most employers want to see that you've done at least 120 hours worth of TEFL training and with that you'll be in a really good position to find the best jobs at reputable schools.
If you're getting confused by it all, you might want to speak one of our advisors who can advise you on yuor options. It can really help talking to an actually person, if you would like to speak to someone let me know and I'll get one of my colleagues to give you a call.
Laura
Hey Emma,
Welcome to Chalkboard! That's great you're hoping to teach in South Korea, what has attracted you to teaching there?
To get you started on the site you may want to have a chat to these members who are currently teaching there. You can also read their blogs about their time teaching out there which will give you a really good idea of what life is like in South Korea:
