New Year wishes

Okay...so it's been a long time since I updated this...I swear I'm getting worse. There was halloween with the kids; that was great. We (the foreign teachers) were paid to make a haunted house. Where I work we have a small jungle gym that we created into a maze with some spots for various horrors (I was a jack-in-a-box with the face of the Joker). Then we got told we had to make the Kids cry. Trust...

Update in South Korea

So, yeah, I know..it's been a long time since I updated. I was gonna try and keep a weekly update but things got a little hectic and I got a little lazy...and so it's been like months...lol. Summer vacation I went with a load of people to Jeju Island for five days...it rained the first day - like typhoon rain -  but the waterfalls were amazing, the beaches were pretty cool and I managed to...

Birthday Party @ school

I got to school today, sat at my desk ready to prepare for a lesson when my Korean co-teacher comes up to me and asks me to come to class for a birthday party. For one day each month the kindergarten classes celebrate birthdays in that month. It happened to be two of my Gemini kids: Andrew and Rachael's birthday. They were dressed in traditional Korean clothes: bright pinks and blues and other colours; enough to make you...

Third Week in Cheonan

So as I'm writing this I'm listening to Rod Stewart's 'Rhythm of my Heart'. Don't judge me by my taste in music. lol. So Sunday I didn't really do much but laze around all day, sweating in the heat and hoping for winter to come soon. I don't mind the heat but the air is so sticky and dense that it makes you sweat all the time. I'm getting used to my time-table. I start...

Second Week in Cheonan

So Saturday night it hammered down....I mean really hammer it with thunder and lightening to top it off...although I was informed that this was only mild and that it can get much worse in the Monsoon period. Good job I brought my coat with me! (I'm not an umbrella person) Sunday was peculiar in the fact that the cleaner for the hotel I was staying in knocked on my door. She doesn't speak English and...

First Week in South Korea

Okay, so Monday I ended up in a hotel which would be my home for a week. Tuesday began with the Director's husband picking me up at 10.20 in the morning. He took me to the school. He doesn't speak any English and I don't speak Korean so it made the car trip a little awkward and when we got to the school I spent alot of time sitting in a chair waiting. Eventually the...

Things I'd wished I'd packed...

Okay...so five days in and I'm noticing there are a few little things that I should have packed and others that should've stayed out. Things that should have been in my suitcase are: Bed sheets; you can't get them anywhere in Cheonan...and if anyone knows where you can I would like to know and so would the other teachers who have been here for a year+! Shorts (or skirts if that's your thing). It's difficult...

Day 1 - South Korea

Said goodbye to Mum and Dad at Manchester Airport at around 11ish (Mum cried) in the morning then wandered around the airport like a bewildered sheep. Had a cup of tea and some lunch, spied some rather sporty cars on display, and finally made my way through the various sections, onto the plane and ready to go. An elderly woman; Claire, sat in the aisle and a man called Barry (also going to South Korea)...

Ten days to go...

Okay, so now I'm at the last stage before I leave and I've decided to take a backpack rather than suitcase...it wasn't a difficult decision, I just don't like pulling and pushing those things onto buses and across streets. Dad doesn't think I'll fit everything in but I'm going to prove him wrong. The trick is to roll and stuff. haha. I've had my jabs...well some of them and had to lie down because I was feeling...

What was I so worried about???

I had my interviews...the first one failed - the person asked for my age, name, surname, if i'd eaten Korean food, did I have any teaching experience, then before I had a chance to ask them some questions they put the phone down. The second was better; wanted to know how i'd handle certain situations in a classroom, asked me how I would cope with the different culture, if I knew any of the language,...
