Hello there fellow china travellers! my name is Emily or better known as "Em". I must admit I have been a bit on the slack side and temporary avoiding writing a personal statement 'about me' mainly due to the reason of being caught and wrapped up in everyday commitments.
But now, I have just celebrated my 26th Birthday and feel that its time to turn over a new leaf and make a fresh start. So here goes! I am originally born and breed from the southern parts of Cornwall, but have lost the good ol' accent in return for being up in Manchester/Lancashire parts for the past 6 years.
With having that dim feeling of plodding along in life with the same routine I made the best decision to take a year gap from work and make a sole adventure travelling. After reading a great book by Pam Buckley - Down Under Aroundabout and Up There, I came to the conclusion China would have to be the first destination! With wanting to make this a worthy trip I stumbled upon the great opportunity treat of what we all will be going through soon in August and teach English as a foreign language abroad :)
I must admit I am finding the TEFL course slightly confusing and I find myself wondering if I make most of it into more of a bigger deal to get my head around than it actually is!??
I am really keen to get to know more people who will be also be taking the plunge with me in August and what a bonus it would be if you lived close to Manchester (perhaps we could arrange a meet up) to soften the blow of battling with the nerves :) If this sounds like you it would be great to get in touch!

Are you looking to work in China?
Do you want to work with Kindergarten children?
Do you want a good Salary?
Do you want weekends off and two ½ days?
If you do, please contact me today. Our kindergarten needs teachers for the new semester starting September. We also have vacancies in our training centers. We are based in GuangZhou, Dongguan, and Foshan all in Guangdong Province, China.
Our school is called CIEO (Canadian International Education Organization)
If you want more details then please get in touch, If you know someone who might be interested then please forward this to them.
If you can’t start September don’t worry, you can still apply as we need teachers throughout the year!
All the best,
Robert
Hi Emily, how are you? Just seen that you have prepared lots of flashcards etc. Any tips would be welcomed. x xx
Hey, your in for China too? Awesome. I really miss it and can't wait to get back. Last time I went through my University so this will be a bit of a change to be the teacher this time rather than the student. I did get a chance to visit a school and sit in on a full day - really awesome. The kids were amazing! How did you find the weekend TEFL I have mine in 2 weeks and a little nervous - any things I should pack in my bag for the day? Previous notes or anything like that?
It still hasn't sunk in that I'm going and it probably won't until I'm actually on the plane. I looked at Atlas as well and it ended up being around £110 if I have insurance until April. I haven't had any vaccinations yet but I'm booked in with the travel clinic to discuss which ones I need. I definately need to buy a couple of things before I go but I'm going to wait a while till I get them but everything that I need is on my list.
Booked my one way flight!!! I leave Manchester at 9:25 and arrive at 8:50 in the morning. I'm going to be so jet lagged as thats basically 1 in the morning over here! I have no idea how I'm going to stay awake for our first day in Beijing. I have no idea what else I need to do before going now except visas, insurance, vaccinations and packing. I'll end up panicking the day before I leave and running around getting everything ready. I can't believe it's booked now!
Hey no not finnished yet, got two weeks till my deadlines at uni then im gonna nail the tefl. Have you had the weekend course yet? Booked my flights the other day i cant believe im going!! SO exciting! xx
Thanks for the welcome! I've got all my application together and am emailing it all off tomorrow (theoretically of course). It's so exciting! I'm so addicted to looking through all of the blogs and pictures on here. It sounds like some people had rough times at the start, but there are so many great stories too. I can't wait to meet you and everyone else in Beijing!
Hey, how was Cornwall? Did you have a good week off? I've been working all week in nursery helping out with 3 and 4 year olds, which has been fun. In between that, I've been preparing flashcards and gathering pictures together. I'm thinking of booking my flights tonight or tomorow through sta travel. I found one way flights for £300 with ethiad through them, which is pretty good but I keep second guessing whether I should book one way flights! I know that its just nerves but I will definately regret it if I don't go anywhere after China for a few weeks at least, so I do need to book them to stop thinking about it.
Hi there, how was your weekend course? I hear its a long 2 days? Mine is the 19th and 20th June in Jurys. The TEFL course is coming on well but its a lot more intense than i imagined. I have finished the Grammar Awareness part and am on the 60 hour on-line one now. I havent had my acceptance letter yet but i'm booking my flights this week or next week. Have you booked your flights yet? Have you had your acceptance letter?
We won't be able to apply for the visa until we get our invitation letter which won't be till about July I think. I can't wait till everything is out of the way and all I have to do is wait for the flight over to Beijing. I got my TEFL certificate the other day which is one more thing completed!
