About Me

Hey! I am considering doing a TEFL course once I graduate from University. I am on an Erasmus program in Spain this year, and got a job teaching English to young children in a school. From that, I was asked to give private lessons once a week too. Even though, I have no TEFL training, it is so rewarding! I know I can only teach conversational English at the moment, I would not have a clue how to teach grammar or anything! That is what inspired me to check this out, it would be so cool to see people learning a new language properly and knowing you were a part of it! :)

For me I've always loved the Slavic lands, partially because of heritage. I'm Ukrainian.  My boyfriend is Serbian.  I got tired of being so far apart (USA and Serbia) so I got my first TEFL cert., packed my backs, and boarded a plane.  However, it's hard finding a job here.  Very little openings. I'm hoping the coming school year will have an opening if not I'll have to find work elsewhere and coming back when there is one. But other than that, I'm just enjoying my time here in Serbia until I know whether i have to find work elsewhere or not.  :)  Are you looking to stay in Spain or hit some other hot spots?

Hi ellenmarie,

Welcome to Chalkboard! That's great you're thinking of doing a TEFL course, have you looked into which course you might like to do? Where are you thinking of teaching after Spain?

Hey!  You don't know me.. but I was reading your info and saw that you hadn't taken a TEFL course yet.  I'm taking my second TEFL course.  My first was through TEFL Institute (teflinstitute.com) and it was great. There was in class practicum requirements even though it was an online course.  However, it lacks things like information on teaching business English and other fabulous things the i-to-i course offers.  I would definitely suggest i-to-i over any other online course if you take online courses.  It is a fraction of the cost of most of the other online courses too.  Good luck in Spain!!  I might be over there in the fall depending on how things happen here in Belgrade, Serbia for me. :)

Hey Ellen,

Welcome to Chalkboard! Teaching in Spain sounds cool - are you planning to stay there once you're TEFL certified, or head further afield?

To get you started on the site you might want to chat to these guys who are also teaching in Spain at the minute:
