Come TEFL with me...In South Korea!

An-Nyeong-Ha-Se-yo or 안녕하세요! Ultimately i mean Hello from the language of my new home in just a few short months time!

With less then 3 months to go before i get on the plane from London to Seoul, South Korea i am absolutely bursting with excitement! And i hear you ask "What are you so excited about?" Well let me show you:

Often referred to as the “Land of the Morning Calm,” Korea is a country of contrasts, from the futuristic megacity of Seoul, with a population of over 10 million and an endless supply of entertainment; to the volcanic island of Jeju with its palm trees and the stunning Cheonjiyeon Waterfall to name but two. The seasons themselves ensure that the country appeals to all types of people, in summer you have the fantastic seven beaches of Busan and all the late night BBQ entertainment and soju that that brings! Alongwith countless hiking opportunities through stunning scenery and national parks across the entire country, and in the winter you are kept busy by the multiple ski resorts, yes thats right ski resorts! And obviously all the snowmen and snowball fights that that brings...

South Korea has been described as the hidden gem of Asia and all the travel blogs, pictures, and conversations i have had the pleasure of seeing or being a part of have left me literally crossing off the dates for February 16th, 2012. My destined arrival date!

Now i hear you say, "Enough details i was sold at Hello!" Well for all of you out there here comes the interesting part...The teaching! Thats what we are all here for after all.

Well South Korea has a ridiculous amount of opportunities for teaching English as a foreign language ranging from teaching in a Hagwon (a private English school) to Government schemes that place you in the public school system such as EPIK and GEPIK. In the public sector you are expected to be in the schools for about 40 hours but you only teach about 22 hours a week! All the lesson planning done at school? Only if you manage to get off facebook!

Now who would not want the opportunity to Co-teach a class of attentive hard working Korean students determined to succeed? Sure beats the image of teaching in the UK, long hours, endless paperwork and naughty students who are determined to reduce you to a balding wreck of a human being before you are 40!

Once again i hear you say, "Enough about the teaching, i was sold at ridiculous amount of opportunities!" Well for all of you out there here comes the even more interesting part...the benefits! No thats also right this amazing country, offering a chance of endless adventure and countless experiences does not expect you to work for free! Imagine my amazement!

A salary of about 2 million won or roughly £1100, a free, fully furnished private apartment, fully paid for round trip airfare, a settlement allowance, a completion bonus, generous vacations, and medical insurance..."This is a wind up right?" I hear the readers say...Not at all, this is genuine and seems to me to be the best renumeration package for any TEFL destination i have found, and with a low cost of living in Korea you can save or pay off those annoying debts.

So what are you waiting for? Come TEFL with me in South Korea, come have an adventure of a lifetime in an amazing destination, and as i will be telling my friends, come and earn 2 million a month for your troubles!

(Warning: Tell your friends about you becomming a millionaire in one month at your own risk!)

Hi Ann-marie.

Are you applying through the EPIK scheme? If you look through my last blog called EPIK interview there are some questions my recruiter gave me to study and in the comments there are the questions i wrote down as soon as i finished it. There are also groups on facebook that have a lot more info on them. Mostly just stay calm learn your answers and make sure you speak slowly and clearly :)

GOOD LUCK.

Hi Elkist!

I have also applied for teaching English in South Korea. I have an interview scheduled for next monday morning and was just wondering if you have any helpful tips on the interview and what types of questions i should expect?
