Chalkboard is i-to-i's TEFL community.
It is currently still in testing phase which could mean you find the odd bug!

I'm 25 and currently a housing officer at Winchester City Council and run a small art business (www.wix.com/bluefairyart/eira). I'm taking part in the Thai internship in May and after that I intend to back-pack around Thailand and then move to South Korea to teach English. Feel free to drop me a line if you want to talk all things travel, Thailand and TEFL! Shameless self-endorsement aside, I also have a blog to document my adventures - www.bluefairypipedreams.wordpress.com.

I swear the checkpoints are getting harder and harder especially checkpoint 4, ridiculous! I suppose its a means to an end though eh? You applied for visas or anything like that yet?
I will skip your comment about us being a bit old, lol. Thanks for the offer, in turn you can surf on my couch whenever you like (we'll have to keep each other posted). Living in the UK is really depressing at the moment, all the news is negative and there is nothing interesting going job wise. I share your desire for a warmer climate, richer culture and broader horizons. :)
Hi. I just read your couch surfing post, and like you, the very mention of the CS community has reminded me that it even existed. I used to share a house with a guy who registered on CS and just went around South America and Asia 'surfing'. I am currently working in a school in Yorkshire which is closing (boo) in July this year and I've decided that that (plus now being single and ready to mingle after 4 years) has given me the kick up the posterior to flee the UK.
Like you I am looking at Thailand/South Korea. I have enrolled on a CELTA course in Sheffield over summer so by the end of August I will be qualified. I like the culture that is found in Thailand and think it would be a great place for a westerner to work/live. South Korea is also attractive as the cities are modern and the pay is good (and I have a little debt). Meeting fellow travellers is a definate positive of being in this community.
Wish you all the best. Backpacking around Thailand sounds an amazing way to start the adventure :) xx
Hey yeah - I can't wait, 74 sleeps! Not that I'm counting or anything... Maybe I'll catch you in Thailand for the switch over then. :)
I back-packed down the Nile and round the Sinai desert for 3 weeks which was AMAZING but other than that my travel experience consists of 'suitcase' holidays which are definitely not the same. I've so got itchy feet though, I've been planning doing a big adventure for years and just kept pushing it back, so glad I'm finally doing it! What about you?
I completed the 140 TEFL course - my advice is to pace yourself and don't do what I did and leave the assignments till last! That gets really old fast. :)
Ah I'm jealous! I would like to get on the Thailand internship that starts in May, but it looks like I'll be waiting for the October one! Anywhere in the far east would be ideal for me, I think I'll be looking into other qualifications as well to see whether I can work within Europe. Have you done much travelling already? It's going to be a first for me! But that's what I ant wait for! Have you completed the TEFL course, or are you currently studying?
eira
sorry what do you mean
Hey eira2011!
It's nice to get involved with other people on chalkboard! I think I slightly underestimated the amount of time and effort that needs to be put into the course! After having a read through various posts/ blogs, I'm stepping up my game! I was doing fine with getting up in the morning and just cracking on of course! So, what are your plans for this year? X
Got it. :)
Just checking that you did get my message, as chalkboard was being super funny for me yesterday.
Oo you never know, we may cross paths! I hope to get to SK around about new year if everything goes to plan (although when does that ever happen?). My plan is to take my south Korea savings down around SE Asia afterwards too - I have a cousin that runs a hostel in New Zealand so I'd like to get down that way and convince him to give me a job for a while after! Is there a huge amount of difference with the main teaching cities in Korea? Seoul is the obvious one but would you recommend a particular place? :)
