Hey Folks,, I have a Teaching Degree in Australia with more years experience than I care to remember. My question is "do I need TEFL / TESOL quals to be able to teach in Thailand?" Any help greatly appreciated. Gary
Chalkboard is i-to-i's TEFL community.
It is currently still in testing phase which could mean you find the odd bug!
Q: What is i-to-i Chalkboard? A: It's the online community of TEFL specialists

Hi. Just finished my TEFL course in Koh Sumui, Thailand. If you want to teach english you won't have a problem finding a teaching job in Thailand. The TEFL certificate is only an extra. Every job I applied for so far you need to have a degree. This they won't tell you when doing the TEFL course. My friend is a teacher and did the course with me and within the first week she found a job and she's in her early 50's. GO FOR IT!!!
With a degree you will probably find a plenty of recruiment agencies that can give you a 1 year contract, subject to you doing a TEFL course and maybe a Thai Culture awarness course.
Not a single school in Thailand is going give you a job as an English Teacher without a recognised teaching qualification for that subject, but maybe your specialist field of experience would get you a teaching job in that area. Did you want to specifically teach English as a foreign language?
