Hi! My name's Nick I'm a very friendly northern Englishman. i'm going to Chiiiina in August to teach but mainly to have a good time. I'm so looking forward to meeting everyone and seeing a completely different country, just hope I don't get arrested for doing something stupid like giving someone a thumbs up! I have delayed my flight home in order to do some travelling after the school term...

Haha maybe you should tell them that ;) I'm sitting here anxiously waiting for my money to arrive (along with all my other shit...!) No I didn't get HepB because it's in three parts so I wouldn't have had time. Very glad though, as I'm dying from the ones I got! Plus apparently I'll be fine as long as I don't get any dental treatment, don't sleep with any of the locals and don't get any tattoos... ;) I got HepA, typhoid and tetanus/diptheria/polio. And yeh she didn't even offer me rabies or japanese ensephilitis, so that's some expense spared! Are you going to be taking malaria tablets? I was told just to cover myself in really good bug repellent all day every day! I'm taking "700 classroom activities" and "Games for language learning". Hopefully they'll come in handy! As for the DVDs, I don't usually watch them, just thought it might fill some time and remind me of home haha. If you're placed anywhere near me you can watch my chick flicks on my laptop hahahaha. (My packing is still not done. Barely started. Kill me now?!)
Heyyy :) Thanks for the recommendation of ICE, I ordered from them earlier so hopefully that will arrive tomorrow! I'm just being really disorganised.... I only got my visa and my jabs today, but at least that's done now! I'm waiting for lots of things in the post though: Chinese currency, mosquito nets, TEFL books, DVD holder and plug adapters... And I'm not remotely packed.... My room's a bombsite. Ugh!
Good point indeed!! :) Don't worry, we'll try to save a slice of the good times for your arrival.
See you on the otherside!
heyy :) i see you ordered your money through ICE, did it come ok? and did it arrive by next day delivery? it's just i'm yet to get my currency, and need to make sure it arrives before i leave.... hope the preparations are going well. mine are not!
I find it completely surreal that we have less than a week to go! I came across the Feb 2011 blog and thought back to when i first signed up to do this!!! I'm incredibly nervous now. I find myself eating everything and extra portions of everything and my excuse for this is 'i might not get this in China.' I've avoided chinese food though!
How are you getting on??
Hey Nick. We're going to have a great time! You can be sure of that my friend! I fixed the link to my travel site. Thanks for lookimg. I'll be flying in on Friday. What about you? Did you find a place to crash yet?
Hi,
Are you looking to work in China?
Do you want to work with Kindergarten children?
Do you want a good Salary?
Do you want weekends off and two ½ days?
If you do, please contact me today. Our kindergarten needs teachers for the new semester starting September. We also have vacancies in our training centers. We are based in GuangZhou, Dongguan, and Foshan all in Guangdong Province, China.
Our school is called CIEO (Canadian International Education Organization)
If you want more details then please get in touch, If you know someone who might be interested then please forward this to them.
If you can’t start September don’t worry, you can still apply as we need teachers throughout the year!
All the best,
Robert
Hey... I chose the south too. I have spent far too much of my life in cold, grey, rainy london and want some tropical weather now :)
I got my visa today.... wooo hoooo! Just have to book some travel insurance and get my currency and that covers the important things! I still haven't started packing. How are you getting on?
Hey...I think we're expected to be dressed smart-casual when teaching. It's difficult to tell what that is in different countries. I'm not sure what to pack either. I think half my bag will be filled with tea, coffee, chocolates and recommended medicines. What location did you choose - north or south? That will probably determine what yu should pack.
Trousers that you don't have to wash for three months???!!!? How does that work? lol
I was working in marketing for a media firm up until May. I then went to India to visit my mum's side of the family. I was there for a month and now i'm temping.
Like you, I'm going to buy some currency beforehand and use my Nationwide Debit card to withdraw extra cash if need be. We can also use our Chinese bank account to withdraw our 'salary' :)
