About Me

Hi, my name is Diane, I am 33, single, originally from Northern Ireland but lived in England a long time, currently in Portsmouth, been here 8 yrs, Birmingham prior to that.  I became single in Nov 2009 for the 1st time since I was 15!  Recently decided to move to France and do a TEFL course,  the only problem is, there are so many TEFL websites I am totally confused as to which course to do!  Think I need some advise before I sign up!!  I am not sure if I want to teach children or business English, I have a lot of decisions to make and need some guidance, can anyone help?  All I know is I've been dreaming about living & working in France and teaching for years and now that I'm single, I think it's the perfect time to live out those dreams!  I'm writing a diary for the first time since a young teenager, should be an interesting read in a few years!  I love life because I have fabulous friends and a fantastic family who are all supporting me in my decision, I'm also a Chrisitian and believe that is also a good support! I really want to make sense of all the different courses so hopefully that will happen soon, plan to move to France and start a course there in Jan 2011.

Hi Diane,

Welcome to Chalkboard and congratulations on deciding to move to France! In terms of which course to do, it's a little bit confusing - generally employers will want to see that you've done at least 120 hours of TEFL study in order to get your hands on the best jobs. This can be done online with a little bit of classroom learning, so you could potentially do your course at home, then move to France just to job hunt. There are more tips on how to choose your TEFL course provider here: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/i-to-i/posts/1443-6-things-your-tefl-course-provider-should-be

For more advice about courses and finding work in France, you might want to chat to these guys who are teaching there at the minute:
