Did you know that most of the students we teach can understand us well and only us but can hardly understand other English speakers they meet? If you didn't know this is a great way to find out. Invite a few of your friends (who are not English teachers) to come into your class and talk to your students. You will be embarrassed.
Do not prepare your students for a world of English speakers ruled by you only. You are preparing them to go out there and meet millions of English speakers with different accents from yours and from various cultural backgrounds.
