Hello fellow ESL teachers and would-be teachers,
We have a community of ESL learners - most of them college graduates - looking for a way to practice using English and interact with English speakers from around the globe. This community I run is called MyEE Online (no publicity intended here but you can simply google it). Most of them are Chinese ESL learners who have learnt English for a considerable number of years but have hardly had the opportunity to interact with English speakers.
We are looking for volunteer ESL teachers or would-be teachers to help them. All you have to do is chat with them online while focusing on their language mistakes and correcting them. In addition, you are welcome to write exercises, short quizzes, stories, etc for them. You could make short videos or audio recordings of yourself explaining some vocabulary or pronunciation problems and upload for the students to use.
In return, a lot of them - some trained - are offering free Chinese language lessons. It's a community of very good persons ready to help. They have offered enormous help to persons they met on the community who happen to travel to Shanghai where about 60% of them are based.
For experienced ESL teachers, this could be a great way to add a bit of charity to your ESL teaching career. For would-be ESL teachers, this is a great way to spot the problem areas of ESL learners, a good guide for the future.
Thank you all for reading and sharing this post with people you know might be interested in this project.
Let me share with you what my grandpa told me in 1998 when I became a teacher:
"Son, you have become a ladder, be strong!"
That's what I have been in a decade+, that's what you all are.
Wishing you the best of 2011.

Hi Kashi,
Thanks for your comment.
My Chinese is no so good eventhough I have lived here for a long time.
However, if you would like to have Chinese / English language exchange you can find many partners at an online community I run called MyEE Online (www.myeeonline.com). We have a Chinese language chat session online every Saturday evening and an English language chat session every Sunday evening. You can meet Chinese Language teachers who would be ready to help you improve your Chinese in exchange for English.
All the best with your TEFL training.
Regards
Denis
