My name is Ingrid and I am currently studying for a BA in Comparative Literature in London. I'm in my second year, so my life revolves around books and essays at the moment, haha. :)
I wish to teach in Japan after I finish my degree, but I'd also love embarking on a temporary volunteering or teaching experience this summer, somewhere where they don't require a degree. I started my TEFL course a few weeks ago, and I'm hoping to finish by the end of January. Wish me luck!

Ohh you're going to Japan? I'm very jealous...it's a very special country - I have no doubt you will love it! I've never met a person who hasn't liked it.
Yes, it's really weird being back in the UK, I'm not sure the travelling bug will ever leave me. I love TEFL for the fact it's always there and plenty of jobs are available, so any time I get fed up with the greyness I can take off :-) It's taken me a year to get rid of the urge to jet off every 5 minutes :-) The answer is lots of little holidays away I've found....
Let me know if you have any questions about Japan. Where abouts are you planning on going?

Hey,
Thanks! :-) That's great, hope you get it! That would be really good experience.
Yeah my placement is for a year, started in September so got 8 months left!
Laura
Hey!
Sorry for the late reply! I study Business management, what about you? Yeah my internship is my work placement for my degree. Didn't have to do one, but think it will help me out loads in my final year!
My weekend course was brilliant, really enjoyed it! I thought it would drag, but the weekend went really quickly. There were loads of different activities so it was interactive and interesting! Hope you enjoy yours too.
Ecuador, Mexico and Costa Rica are the main places that I want to go to, so hope I will at some point in my life! Yeah that wold be good. Argh there are so many great places in the world to go visit!
Hey Ingrid, I'm am good thanks u? Japan sounds great, I'm sure you will love it out there then! It's definitely the best way to learn a language.
Glad you are enjoying your TEFL course. Where are you doing your weekend course? I know what you mean about it being daunting as it's a long weekend. I've actually got my TEFL course at the weekend so I will let you know how it goes!
A lot of my friends have traveled round Thailand and have said great things about it, so I would love to go and teach English while i'm there. Thank you, I will bare that in mind. It will be a while yet until I can go travelling, as I've got a year of university after I finish my year working at i-to-i! There are loads of places I actually want to go to, I would love to travel round South America too.

Hey,
Welcome to Chalkboard. Great to see you're interested in teaching in Japan, what has attracted you to teaching there?
To get you started on the site you may want to have a chat to these members who have experience teaching in Japan:
http://www.tefl-chalkboard.com/emmafoers (Emma is our in-house tutor but has lots of experience teaching in Japan)
http://www.tefl-chalkboard.com/pdixon/
How are you finding your TEFL course so far? There are oportunities to teach in the summer to gain teaching experience without having a degree. For example in Spain there are lots of summer schools for teaching English.
Enjoy the site and feel free to ask me any questions you have :-)
