HI from South Korea.
I have been teaching in South Korea for a year and I am about to launch into a TEFL course. Yes, it will help and provide all sorts of useful tools to help in everyday teaching. It really is worth doing one before you start but I know many of us don't do it until we have already launched into TEFL teaching.
I love South Korea, the people here are generally very kind, very helpful, and very happy to have us here. You will read the odd horror story about being a foreigner in Korea, but the majority of us just love it and find life here very good.
There is a lot see in Korea, and its a wonderful way to start to understand another culture and way of life.
