Quite exciting! This Sunday the 14th of February through to the Thursday I will be heading from my home in Hong Kong over to Beijing for Chinese New Year 2010. I will be going to with my wife (she is HK Chinese) and her family. I have a book about Beijing, it's all in Chinese, I can see the pictures, read very little, but my wife can tell me more and choose places - so it's good.
What things would people recommend? I'm in my late 20's, if anyone wants to meet my wife and I, take us to your favorite local place, that might be fun. Either way, I am very much looking forward to this trip.

Sounds like you had a great time - if you've got any pics you should post them up!
Beijing is freeeezzzing this time of year though, so glad you survived :)
Thanks for the recommendations. I got to see The Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, The Great Wall (took a long bus ride), The Temple of Heaven, The Olympic Sites and Wanfu Jen Street. I was there half of Sunday and left late Wednesday, I thought I would be there Thursday as well, but we looked at the information wrong :P
I would love to go back again, it was very cold, but I got used to it. Coming back to Hong Kong is quite cold at the moment, especially as many HK people don't really have good heating for their houses (too busy thinking of air-conditioning which is the main need most of the year).
Hey Dean,
Hope you're enjoying Beijing!
In terms of what to see, I'd recommend the following:
Houhai Park (v.pretty)
The Summer Palace
The Forbidden City and Tianmen Square (can hardly visit Beijing without seeing those!)
The great wall - although I'd head for Simatai and see the genuine ruins there, rather than the rebuilt section at badaling. It's a longer bus ride, but it's certainly worth it.
Have a great time and make sure you post some pictures when you get home!
